One pass through the sander.

These are actually scraps that will be used to make pickup rings and matching headstock veneers. The first piece is quilted mahogany. The second is a bit of that flamed bubinga that I posted a couple weeks ago. They've been run through a belt sander but they're still raw. It should be incredible to see what happens to this stuff when it's really been cleaned up and finished.

I don't like the bubinga, but man! That mahogany looks amazing. What a top that would make.

I agree- quilted mahogany, now THAT's something you don't see everyday.

I'll be watching this thread.

The mahogany is a "watch-but-don't-touch" deal. I've got two tops worth. Pne is going into a new 7-string for me and the other is going into a guitar that I'm going to be selling to raise money to put a tombstone on my favorite players grave. There's another two-top plank available, but it's stupidly expensive and I'm basically out of money.

I'd never seen quilted mahogany until I got my acoustic (Yamaha CPX-15E)... it really is a thing of beauty! Not trying to usurp the thread, but really, quilted mahogany looks great all finished up and I had to share.

I know!- I still catch myself staring at it sometimes.
Anyway- don't forget to keep us posted on those pieces you've got there! It'll be neat to see them go from almost raw to a finished component.
