I just am getting ready to receive my first 12-string electric. I'm excited because they sound so cool. It got me wondering if anyone has played with the 12-string concept for a 7 string guitar layout?

I own a Universe and an RG7 and thought that it would be cool to have a 14 stringer.

anybody know of any companies making a 14 string electric guitar?

I think, for a 14-string, the neck would have so wide that it would be hard to play...in theory

Or it could be a neck just like the Ibanez 7/13-string doubleneck in the post below. *The neck would be no wider than an ordinary neck, but the nut would be cut to double each string by an octave, just like a 12-string (with the exception of the two high strings, which would just be doubled in standard pitch).

As 7-strings become more and more popular, I think it's safe to say that it's only a matter of time before 14-strings begin to pop up. *However, I think it'll be awhile before we see a production model 14-string. *I'd say Schecter or BC Rich would most likely introduce a production model before Ibanez does, but I hope I'm wrong!

I've asked this question many times, and the answer has so far been "no." *I don't think anyone's making any 14-strings. *I would also really really like one. *I'm sure if you looked hard enough, you'd find a custom place that'll make you one. *Try Conklin or These Guys. *They've made 9 and 11-string guitars respectively. *And apparently the Timtone guys will even "inlay a booger if you want." *:biggrin:

Just the other day, *a guy came in with a Baritone 12-string tuned to B made by Veilette...it was very cool. So maybe investigate that...he brought it in for a set-up and restring. It was fitted with .014's and played beautifully...very wonderful guitar, normal sized width on the fretboard, and very comfy in general...
