pickup question

I took my Dremel router, made a template, and took it slow. There is a little exposed wood around the edges, given a good sharp bit only a little, and the pickups fit tight in the slot so a little magic marker on the edges of the slot and you'll never know. The slots only need to get made.....taller I guess you'd call it, and only by a little. If you haven't figured it out I direct mounted mine, no problems at all. If your willing to take the 2 hours to do a proffesional job and pay the extra money for the EMGs, you wont be dissapointed. I may have over-simplified it, but hey, I'm 14 and I did a job so good that I bet the tech in GC couldn't do better. You'll save a hell of a lot of money doing it yourself, think of the liability someone will have when working on an expensive axe doing a dangerous job. I've heard of most techs/luthiers turning down installing EMG 707s because of the routing. Plus I haggled my way down to $90 a pickup, so for $180 and a little elbow grease and you've got the greatest sounding guitar to date.

pickup question

I dont know what a dremel router is or how to work one...so chances are I'm probably gonna have to find someone who's willling to do it...but i usually like to do custom stuff myself...can i find one of these routers at a hardware store or?? it'll be a while before i get the EMG's anyway so I'll have more time to do the homework first before I dive into it...

thanks for the help dude

If you find a hardware store that does not have them in stock then that store should be shut down til it does.

Yeah I just had a Dremel one lying around, you might be able to find something better though. Maybe a normal router would work too, I'm sure it would, so whatever. It's actually very little that needs to be routed out so a makeshift router like the Dremel one I had worked great. I mean, it didn't even stand up on it's own, I had to make a guide to get it to not wiggle. So good luck, and yeah my EMGs took like 2 months to get in. Back-orders I think......

pickup question

A Dremel is basicly a hand held router. Its small and very menuverable.
I just wanted to make sure that you knew that even though the Blaze is scouped. (as you mentiond earlyer) It is not the same as a scouped amp. You will still get a nice warm sound through out the guitar. The reson it is scouped is to keep those mids away on each string. Without that it would sound like mud.
Just incase you were thinking the middle 3 strings had less response than the outside stings.

pickup question

I have a "Super Distortion" in my guitar and it sounds good to me. *It's a standard Squire Affinity Strat from a few years ago, so it's a much smaller difference in size, and it sounds great along side the standard pickups. *

pickup question

I just ordered the Blaze pickups. I didnīt know that the EMGīs required routing, *too bad, I donīt want to mess with the giutar too much, otherwise I might have gone that way. I am after all raised on EMGīs (81 & 85) and I always liked them for metal, but I need a bit more versatility nowadays, and I have gain to spare in my amps so I donīt mind that the Blazeīs arenīt that hot. The most important thing is that they are articulate.
