drew... I dont have a problem with my s7 and the "sludge factor" on the low b string and thats mahogany. Yes, mahogany is a very midrange expressive wood but its also known for being extremely articulate. All of the higher density woods have that same quality. You are more apt to have notes melding together on a basswood or alder guitar where the grain structure is a lot less tight. This is the primary reason why i play mahogany guitars. Obviously amp settings play a factor and you cant run bass and midrange settings full tilt as you can on a alder guitar. On my avt50, I keep those settings at 4 which gives me a full, warm and very articulate sound. The b string is expressive (not thin and trebly) but you can still hear all the notes clearly.

Eh, personal preference- i actually found the bass frequencies to be too weak on my 2027, and this was through a mesa combo. The low B string just didn't have the body of the other strings, in the lower registers, IMO. Additionally, it didn't have the same presence in the upper frequencies- it was foucsed very much in the midranges, spefically the lower mids, so the lower registers had neither the mass nor the attack/clarity they needed to be replicated properly, IMO.

Could have to do something with the body shape- the S-series body is lighter, and could potentially be more resonant due to its smaller mass. Or it could be due to a bad chunk of wood. But i think it's solely personal preference- the guy i sold the 2027 to is in love with the tone, and a few other people who played it (and a bunch of guys around here who own them) are enthralled. It was just it was to Les Paul-y for me, and didn't have the girth my 7620 gave me- it was more focused, and not in a way i liked. This was true about the entire instrument, not just the lows- i just don't like Les Pauls, and all i could hear when i was playing,e specially when i backed off the volume a bit with distortion, was southern rock.

Thankfully, there's more than one way to build a 7.

hey...nothing wrong with a little freebird every once in a while I like that I can get a very bluesy/jazzy tone with mahogany especially with the tone zone in the bridge. I'm in love with my rg3120. I've got the evo in the bridge of the s7 and will probably change to the TZ on that one. On the flip side, I get a very nice high gain lead tone out of the 3120 which reminds me a lot of "flying in a blue dream". I'm more of a prog metal guy so i love versatility. I'm waiting for the day when I can make my custom 7 with one piece koa body with nothing but clear coat finish. Its just too bad i cant get a gold edge-pro 7.

As a first post, i'd like to bring attention to some of the comments made about non-preferred 'mid-range' guitars. I am aware that this is "Jemsite" But, I consider myself serious about my music, and am married, and have a son. (im 22) I would LOVE to be able to afford a JEM, or high range RG...they'd be perfect.
I currently play a joke-of-a-guitar (Dean Phantom) as a quick replacement for a broken old S-series, not even close eh.. I've had a couple of RG's, a Jackson, all mid-ranges.
I recently ordered the 1570 for $520.00, which, relative to my spending, is a high-range guitar . I'm really excited about receiving it... it'll be my most expensive guitar ever. As a matter of fact, im sending back an RGT42 to a website that claimed it was a 2003 (wrong spec details, wasn't closeout deal either). At the time, before returning it, the rgt42 played really well, despite the lo-trsii. Which isnt to say I have no knowledge of a good axe... Anyway , my point is, people have their opinions, and thats cool. But to someone like me , the addition of the 1570 to the prestige series is a good thing, (it has the same bridge as the higher end prestiges + sigs anyway). Just think about us poor bastards before you bash a sweet guitar (to me) for its upgrade to a level you deem it unworthy. Hell, makes me feel sorry for the 1570 .

Actually, we're discussing it's 7-string cousin, the 1527.

A 1570 isn't exactly a low-end guitar... I mean, from a strictly economic perspective and against, say, a Jem it may be, but on a "player" level, it's kinda the workhorse version- it doesn't go overboard on the cosmetic level, but it still offers all of the same features that makes one of the top-of-the-line ibanez's play the way they do. A 5-series RG is really a professional-level guitar, at a price that, when you think of what you're getting, makes it too hard to believe.

In short, you'll love the thing.

Incidentally, i'm 22 as well... i'm just single and still in college. In another month or so I'll have a diploma, but you're getting laid on a nearly nightly basis... life ain't fair, man.

Yeah im sure i'll love it... i 'liked' the rgt42, WITH the trs2. Ruined the neck with that molasses gloss finish, however. (and does a neckthru REALLY matter that much with a floating trem ) Hopefully the EdgePro lives up to its older siblings' rep..

and yes life is good
