Question about 8 stringers.

is the 8 string tuned like GBEADGBE or something? or maybe F#BEADGBE? or is it an even higher high string like BEADGBEA or something? and if its the lower variant, wouldn't that step all over the bass player's toes? what exactly is the point?

Any one of those tunings is fine. The low F# and the high A tunings are probably the most common. If you were a solo jazz player, I think having a low tuned 8 string would be the best thing because it does get down into the bass range.

Not if the bassist tunes lower as well And to be completely honest, a 6-string guitar in standard tuning steps all over the bass guitar to begin with. It's all in how you play the bass. If you just follow the guitar lines, you won't stand out much no matter what. Look at Korn, or Mudvayne. There's bassists that have learned how to stand out in heavy music (especially Mudvayne).

the last one is my band during practice(minus bassist) i played the tapping intro, the other guitarist played the "solo"(tho he really just disgraced it... he needs to work on that... we've worked on the philosopher more since that was recorded, it has become very smooth(cept the solo )

good sound quality on that live one, my band covers zombie ritual and crystal mountain, both are flawless, except for the solos, which i've buckled down and started to learn them note for note, rather than improvising on the sound, nothing wrong with improving solos in a cover song, but his solos have alot more depth than mine do. we also cover styrofoam death machine by overcast.
