quick question

hi all, hopefully this is in the right forum, if not, feel free to move it as needed.

i own an old cort series 7-string. it looks like a standard ibanez 7 rip off (ever notice how when the 7-string hype started, every company out there that didnt have their own really unique guitar style completly RIPPED-OFF ibanezes 7's? the corts, deans, and many other small to no-name companies all put out a 7 that was set up and looked almost EXACTLY like the ibanezes!) with a volume control, push/pull coil-tapping tone control, standard strat-type trem (which was the only real rant i had about the thing. i had to use 5 springs just to get the thing to hold tune! but hell, for $80 it wasnt a bad bargain, especially since when i bought it, the 7-string hype was at its peak and i saw 7620s and 7621s going for damn near $800 in BAD condition on the used market! its a nice little axe for only $80!), and it was finished in a not to shabby mettalic red.

anyways, my question is this. during the sno-core tour a few years back (with kittie, boy hits car and fear factory (with DINO) on the bill. cant remember the year though), i managed to get 3 members of fear factory (burton, dino and i THINK the drummer whos name escapes me at the moment) to sign the guitar on the bottom side and back of the guitar. i rough sanded the clear off (as well as some of the paint itself. where the sigs are its really scratchy but, hey, i was willing to sacrifice the flawless finish for one of my fav guitarists to sign it!) on the spots before they signed it. its my only 7, and it has languished in its case because im afraid to rub the sigs off. i want to start working with it again, so im wondering what kind of clear i should put over the sigs. they were put on it with a regular black sharpie, and im afraid clear coating might make them run or even totally dissapear! does anyone know of a certain brand of clear that wont ruin the sigs, or should i just retire her and try to find another cheap 7 or maybe even just get a new, inexpensive body.

any help would be appreciated, and if my post is to long-winded, forgive me, its 5 in the morning here and im very tired! also, if im in the wrong forum, again, forgive me and move it as you mods see fit!

I would retire the axe.

Vai had a similar problem on Evo when les paul signed it, TWICE lol, but it appears to be deteriorating again.

But in his case, he only put a clear sticker over it, and he didn't sand down the finish before it was signed, so that could be another reason the marker didn't stick around long on EVO. Clear coating may work better than the sticker. Think of the FPs, they've got cloth under there, and there's some "flame tops" that are actually a piece of paper cleared over.
