recommendations for 7 string
hey, im 17 years old and into a large spectrum of music genres. i enjoy playing everything from jazz to metal, progressive, to alternative to a little little bit of latin... i play piano, guitar, nd a little drums. the thing is, i'm trying to save up for a seven string guitar. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a seven string guitar around 1000$. in particular i was looking at the
Ibanez
S7320
, any comments???
Thanks,
Dan

For around $ 1000,- get an old green dot Ibanez Universe.
Amazing guitars and bang for your buck.

I agree, get a second hand 1527 and upgrade the pickups

Re: recommendations for 7 string
I'd have to say RG7620, they've actually been compared to the UV.
I got mine for only $500, and it works perfectly. All I had to do was replace the stock Blaze bridge pickup (which had gone microphonic), so I got an Evo7.

the one you're looking at seems cool. how many frets do you want?
for me, i can't have any less than 24 (just a picky personal preference thing). if you don't mind 22 frets i'd say the S7320 would be a solid choice.
some other good ones are:
Ibanez K7
Ibanez RG7x2x(xl)
Ibanez 1527(M)
Ibanez Apex2
Schecter Loomis
ESP M-307
and I hear great things about the Agile Interceptor Pro and that comes with either a 25.5" or 27" scale

Re: recommendations for 7 string
I'd get the maple boarded 1527. They may not be around forever, and that rarity could conceivably help you at resale time. Plus, it's a 1527, so it's an outstanding 7.

A seven string for around $1000? I'd go for the 1527, myself. It's great.

Re: recommendations for 7 string
Whatever you do, don't buy a new Ibanez. IMHO they're really overpriced for what you get out of the box.
I've had bought a new 1527 and a new Agile Intrepid 8 string.
IMHO new Agile will be so much more bang for your buck.
With new 1527 you will need a pickup replacement (stock ones are useless) and locking stud conversion for your trem (stock cheap**** studs don't like to hold tuning very well).
I can't say much about the 7320, but I can guess it would require pickup replacement as well.

Re: recommendations for 7 string
go for the RG1527 it doesnt need new pickups - the stock ones sound great and react well to the volume control if you want to clean up the sound whilst still on a distortion channel for instance. The trem studs dont need replacing with the locking variety, it holds tuning against anything you can throw at it. Also the bridge is so low profile it wont be intrusive to your palm muting technique.
Japanese fret board is levelled and dressed to perfection so you can have super low action if you want it - you can rest assured you will get a good guitar if you go for one of these!
