RG 7 string pros HELP!

Ok bought a 1999 RG7420 in Magenta Crush Mint, I mean brand new mint, at guitar center, not happy with the pups, trem seems OK.

Now I remember seeing another used ibanez 7 so I called them to see what it was and its on layaway for me right now untill I can get up their tomorrow after work.

It is a "dark purple" fixed bridge 7, string through bridge, with the SN starting in F99 so 1999 model but I cant find any mention of a fixed bridge in a Vampire Kiss finish which is the color I think it is?????

Idea on actual model number? Any idea what pups are in it? Thanks for the help?! Would the fixed be MUCH less hassle then the trem model?

My Magenta Crush says F99, but Magenta crush dident show up untill the 2000 cataolg. They made Vamp Kiss in the lo-pro7 model in the 1999 cataolg, but the fixed was only in Black that year. In the 1998 cataolog they sown the fixed as BK and White only, in the 2000 cataolg the fixed is only in Black....... So I dont see a "dark purple aka VK in a fixed in any year close to the 1999 SN..........

But here about 1/3 the way down it show a RG7421 came in Black and Black Cherry...... Could this be black cherry?

Also How can I tell the diffrence of the pups on a visual? or do they look the same? I mean the S7-7 and S8-7 vs the Dimarzio Blaze's?

Heres a link with picture to guitar centers ad for it.

The Blaze pups have hex bolts on both coils.

Which model is the fixed bridge you're referring to?? If it's a 7421 it'll be the Ibz pickups...If it's a 7621, it'll be the Dimarzio New 7's

Correct I know that, the questions is how to ID the fixed bridge that I dident buy? The 7421's (with the cheaper IBZ pups) came in Black and Cherry Fudge. The 7621's (with the blazes) dident come in a color similar to Vampire Kiss i.e. dark purple, just black and white over the years.

So then according to the other post the only way I can ID the fixed bridge RG is if all the coils of both humbuckers will be hex heads would make it a 7621. The Magenta Crush 7420 Has IBZ for sure then. Ill just have to go look tomorrow!

Re: RG 7 string pros HELP!

The cutouts for the pickup tabs are round on a 7421, and more triangular on a 7621. And neither the 7620 nor 7621 ever came with Blazes, that was a misprint in the catalog. They came with Dimarzio New 7s.

Re: RG 7 string pros HELP!

Thanks I just found a few older posts that had that info!

So what are your opinions and the 2 guitars, both look like the same owner MINT with plastic on the covers. I won't use the trem really......

#1 7420 Magenta Crush (I kinda like the color lol), no case, lo-trs 7, trem stock pups $317.00 after taxes (sold it to me cheaper becasue they thought it was the 7421 in question would have been $375.00+ tax)

#2 7421 (just called and comfirmed the pups were IBZ hex head/normal poles) Cherry fudge, fixed bridge, no case ect. Same $317.00 unless I can talk them down.

Is it too expensive for either one? whats fair? Dont really want to use the trem at all, I can block the 7420 would that help the sustain? I assume the string through fixed would give more sustain and clearer notes? How bad is the Lo-Trs7 really? In comparison I have 3 old Ibbys 91 RG570 and 98 RG520 with Edge's and a 92 RG770 with a lo-pro. Thanks all!!!

Re: RG 7 string pros HELP!

I think the magenta crush is a very cool color, but I'm in the minority on that one I believe I would rather have paid less for it or gotten a hard case with it, as I would upgrade the trem to an OFR 7. If you're going to block the trem I guess it doesn't matter too much. $375 was too high for that though.

The 7421 really just needs new pickups, so that might be a good buy as well, though a case would definitely make it better. I got a 7620 a year ago from a local GC for 300 with a gigbag included, so you could try to talk them down a bit, or give you a deal on some pickups if you buy the guitar.

Re: RG 7 string pros HELP!

IMO if you´re not going to use the trem, then return th 7420 and get the 7421
