RG-7620 - Final Opinion

Finally got to play the RG-7620 at my local guitar shop for a decent amount of time. *Here's my report:

I like the neck shape.
I like the sound (even though it was through a small-ish Fender combo amp)
It's from '99 (checked serial #)
Surprisingly light.
I must buy it now.

I then followed it with a Gibson Les Paul that had tiny frets, a fat neck, EMGs, and a switch added that (as far as I can tell) did nothing. *BIG DIFFERENCE IN FEEL! * *Man was that sucker heavy...

Only $200-something left to pay on my Flextone II then I start saving for her! *Did I mention she plays like a dream? * *I also got two nu-metal fans hooked on Dream Theater (via "Glass Prison" ). * *Man that's a sweet guitar... *

Two questions:

1) *Would I be getting ripped off if I payed $1021 Canadian for it?

2) *What are the "New 7" pickups? *Did they used to be different? *This is a '99 model.

But only by a hundred something. *Ah well, convenience wins out. * *I'm kinda hoping it sells before I get the money so I have motivation to find an RG1077XL or RG2127...

These are now known by DiMarzio as Custom 7s... Nice pickups... similar in tone and response to the PAFs, I might add... Love them...

only by a hundred??? well, by my math, difference on the dollar, you'd be saving closer to $250 if you bought one over the border. *$1021 canadian is more than I paid for my first one brand new and that was a couple years ago when they were new and charging more for them. *

I've seen NOS 7620s going for around CAD$800 or so. That was a while ago, but they haven't exactly appreciated in value.

Steve's Music in Toronto had a 1077XL last time i was in, and it was priced around CAD$1500 or so.

Hmm...I'll try and talk 'em down a bit. *They've got it labeled as "List $1300, Sale $1021". *And that's plus 15% tax. *:bash: *:shoot: Tax

when you consider that the $1021 they are charging is roughly $640USD, and I've seen UV7BK's go on ebay for that, I wouldn't pay it. *As a comparison, in 1999, when I bought my RG7620BK, I paid $940 with a hardshell case brand new. *And they sure as hell haven't gone up in value.

Like I said, I'll see if I can talk them down any. *And besides, if it's gone before then, I'll search for a good deal on something else. *Even the K7 is starting to look nice...
