Question

RG1527 Neck Dimensions Vs Universe Neck Dimesnions

Hi folks,

I'm considering buying an RG-5127. I know that a Universe neck is unfinished, whereas an RG7 neck tends to have a satin finsih. Can anyone withe experience tell me whether or not the necks have the same dimensions????

I know that the old RG7620 neck used to be the same size/shape as a UV.

Thanks.

Not technically true - they're the same size, but their profiles are QUITE different, at least on my '99 RG and '91 UV. The UV has a much smoother, more "c" shaped taper, while the RG's is more abrupt and more "D" shaped. Resultingly, the RG feels a bit girthier. I prefer the UV, myself, but it's a taste thing.

I'd assume the 1527 is virtually identical with the 7620.

My 7620 feels thicker than my UV. I think they are same though after
comparing. The 7620 is definately more glossy as my PWH is more bare but smooth.

Yeah, it has to do with the shape of the neck, man. Same thickness, it's just the RG's taper is more abrupt, so it's chubbier on the sides than the UV is.

Not trying to be a nit-picker, but the old UV profile is much different than the new UV777BK, or at least the BK back in 99 or so. Haven't felt a brand new one lately. The old PWHs were more like a wizard type neck, where the new UV is more ultra shaped, even viper (think JPM).

So I hear... I guess I just have to take a crack at one of the newer UV necks and see how they measure up... It's a cruel, cruel world, isn't it?

I agree with Gresh. I used to own a 91 UV777GR and I traded with LGM for a 2000 UV777BK and the old GR neck was thinner. Between the RG 1527 and my 2000 UV, I can't tell the difference. They are about the same.
