RG1527, the new RG7*20 replacment
im
very
intrigued by this model. its going to replace the RG7620 (still alive everywhere but here!) and the RG7420. what does everyone think of this new beast (and/or beauty). since this is most likely a prestige model is anyone going to be a little upset about where the midrange RG7s went or just happy to have a new .... well... prestigious model. also... does anyone have the specs on this thing?im guessing
basswood body
, maple neck with
rosewood fretboard
? some classy finish, maybe an air norton 7/tone zone 7 combo? signle coil middle perhaps? Lo Pro 7 or maybe one of those NEW edges.... sorry if im rambling im just soooo excited for all these new models.

Judging by the number scheme, I'm betting it is a HH config (RG15
2
7).
It will probably have the Dimarzio made, IBZ labeled pups that the other new guitars are rumoured to have.
As for those people missing the RG7420.....too bad!!! hehehe j/k

I wonder if they're doing 7-string versions of the new trems. A Prestige fixed-bridge 7 would be nice, too.

That will never happen though. The closest thing to a Prestige
fixed bridge
is available if you click the top right box

Its a bit ironic that a few weeks ago i said to my friends that i want to get a new Ibanez 7-string with
Dimarzio pups
and all the things you mentioned. then i buy a RG7420 thinking it will never happen.........DAM!

I cannot wait myself. I would think it would be a
trem guitar
. After the 7620 went away, I was sure they would never make anything cool in a 7 again. Lets keep our fingers crossed!!

'oooooohhhhhh its off to see the ebay wizard, the wonderful wizard of ebay' .

I think Ibanez is probably being smart and hedging their bets on 7 strings. Here's my thoughts on the current lineup and what would stay or go and why:
K7-Nice guitars.....ditch them. Sales have been dismal, the instruments are embarassing with that stupid inlay and even with all the great things about them they're not selling. Korn isn't at the height of their popularity right now and all numbers show that while they may be holding ground they're not as huge a maret share as they were. Hedge the bets...dump em'.
RG7420-Everyone knows why they're undesirable; the trem sucks. Add to it alot of QC issues in the past with thin paint chipping easily and these things are doomed. If only the paint was atrocious they'd be fine. They're not selling because used RG7620s can be found for less than the RG7420's are selling new.
RG1077XL: Nice instrument....not a bad single thing about it. But unfortunately with it being a Prestige the price is higher than it really needs to be for a 7; too much can be had for much less. I'd have a hrd time not justifying losing these.
GRX720-Set phasers on jettison....if it sells for cheap new and more can be had for slightly more on the used market then it seems silly to try and make an argument for these. They may stay, but it'll be for the sake of having a low-end 7 available.
AX7221-Almost the same reason as the GRX720....too low-end and there's too many really good 7's in the used market to justify them staying.
RG7321-It's a low end but it has it's niche with a set bridge. People seem to rave on and on about these; there's soemthing to them and I think they might get kept to round out the like.
RG7421XL-They're Prestiges but for the life of me I can't figure out why. It'd be a death-match between these and the RG7321 to make it into the next year with the only thing going for this one being that it is indeed a Prestige.
UV777BK-They're not jumping off the shelves but sales are steady and have been for the life of them. With Steves sig and the positive relationship Ibanez has had with him it's probably the most likely to remain in the line.
Here's my speculation:
UV777BK-stays for the reason given; it's high-end, sells consistently (albeit slowly) and maintains a relationship with one of their premiere players.
RG7421XL-Stays and gets upgraded with a nice maple top to it. Push the price up a hundred bucks and it instantly becomes a mid-priced instrument with alot of appeal. They might can the Prestige designation though; it'd help take the price down a bit.
RGXXXX-The return of the RG7620s....mid-priced with potentially a few upgrades. It'll be a trem version of the RG7421XL; ncie top, good bridge, etc.
The low-end is whats puzzling me. Nothing is really selling and I'm not sure how if or how they plan to do it up.
Now that I've said this...the fun will be seeing how amazingly wrong I am...
Sit back...enjoy...and laugh along with me. Just remember...I thought the McDLT was a killer idea at the time....

im sorry but i dunno how you can compare the ax7221 to the GRX720, i thought the ax was alright for low end but the GRX hands down THE WORST guitar ive EVER played period. i dont know what makes them soo bad just everything, the sound is the nastiest thing ever and not in the good way, my farts have more clarity than that ! with better tone too. the whole feeling of ot is like someone ate an RG and pooped this out. i just cant believe how horrible this guitar is.... but im rambling sorry. too much venting... the RG7420 isnt coming back thank god. but i banez is gonna have to come up with somthing really good to make this RG1527 more attractive than a $300 (orless) RG7620.
