RG2228 finishes (mock ups)
I have put a deposit down on one of these, and will receive it late august/early september. Can't wait!! Only problem is: its black. Boring black. Ibanez give us no choice, we have to finish what they've started!!!
Ive been looking at Richard Fays site, and think a swirl could be in order! I really like the Jupiter swirl he does. Very nice.
Been doing some mock ups in photoshop today at work instead of working as i should have been!
Looks good in solid colours too:
Even a black burst is more interesting!!
Anyone know if removing the dots is possible, or would it be a new fretboard job?? Hope you like the pics, am going to do lots more, got a few months to decide yet! Any Suggestions???

Even though it may be the most "plain-looking" of the bunch, I really like the brownish/copper finish.

Re: RG2228 finishes (mock ups)
nice! a
quilted maple
top with a deep red transparent finish and black-burst would be beyond sweet... and make the burst follow the shape of the horns too...
i love red

I like that browny colour too, glad its not just me! You don't see many brown guitars (painted that is!). Might put some pyramids or something on the 'board.
Doing a flame top, and will do a quilted one also. Will do that red one for you MF_Kitten. By the way, your
body shape
mockups were really nice, was loving the S.

How about a chameleon paint job? I'm sure someone could make it turn 3 different colors. Or you could always get it painted in a DY or RFR finish.

Re: RG2228 finishes (mock ups)
3 Colours would be cool. Ive just got too much choice, I can't cope!! Not a bad state to be in tho!
This is the swirl I like that
Richard Fay
did. Love the colours. It's called Jupiter Burst, as the colours are those seen on jupiter. Nice!

Nice work, I really like the first 2 swirls..
My suggestion is Yellow Quilt top, burst to Orange on the sides =] I loveeeee that finish, Trying to refinish my RG7620 to it right now but not going totally as planned lol

Re: RG2228 finishes (mock ups)
That Jupier burst is really nice
To answer an earlier question, you can simply pull out the plastic fretboard dots and replace them wth something else. I have purple heart wood dots in my 7620 neck, and you can barely see them. I also have multi colored dots in my 550 neck, which is a bit more fun
But you don't need to get a whole new neck or fretboard to make the dots 'go away'. You have options, including wood putty and a touch of stain.

Re: RG2228 finishes (mock ups)
That is one of my favourite swirls. I actually love Richard Fay.
These pictures really highlight the ugliness of the Ibby's headstock IMO.
How do you 'pull' the dots out?

Screw a regular screw into them, and then when it's in a bit grab the screw with a pair of pliers and yank. Voila, you are dotless
Fill with whatever you feel like.

I'm really digging the mock-up swirls you did! That would be cool to have 3 different swirls that looked exactly alike besides color.
