RG7 baritone (mockups inside!)
Hey guys,
I thought that you'd like to see the mockups/specs of my upcoming RG7 baritone. The neck is being built by
ETGuitars
. The body *may* be a Sims, or another ET product. Time will tell. Kudos to Randy over on sevenstring.org for making these.
The way things are, I'm going to opt for the purple one. The specs will be as follows -
28" scale
25 frets (there are 27 on the mockups)
ebony freboard
mahogany back
quilted maple top
Bare Knuckle
Miracle Man bridge humbucker
Bare Knukle Cold Sweat neck humbucker
volume knob
Hipshot bridge

Re: RG7 baritone (mockups inside!)
That is pretty awesome.
It seems custom guitars and the way to go. People like things about a production model, but little quirks put them off, and they do what you are doing. Any idea how much it'll cost?

Yeah, I've never really been hapy with the prduction 7-strigs on offer, mostly down to the lack of
baritone
scales (in the sense of being "long scale"). As for the cost... If you want, I can PM you the price of the neck and body.
The Bare Knuckle pickups cost me about £100 each.

I have no idea how low it could go and still retain clarity, but I only intend to tune it with a low B.
The reason? Longer scales promote a clearer tone, which I find standard scales to lack. You can definitely achieve a decent low B sound using standard scales, but I have an especially strong hatred towards even slightly muddy tones, so extended scale seems to be the way to go.

you know?....more inches = less bend, stretch, 4finger liniar...
i believe try it with low guage....just for test it....meshuggah are playing with 27" and your rg7 it's 28"!!!!
you must play like a bass player
i mean maybe you can go lower than F....that's E! like normal bass......
Ibanez create a new bass: SR7 it's a seven string bass (for tech death metal or soloist job also jazz fusion)
spec:
5pcs Maple/Bubinga neck
Mahogany body
Medium frets Gibraltar Custom Bass VII bridge (11mm string spacing)
Quik Change Bass VII tailpiece
Duncan® Ibanez (J) neck pu
Duncan® Ibanez (Jx2) bridge pu
Vari-Mid III 3-band eq
Factory Tuning : 1E, 2B, 3G, 4D, 5A, 6E, 7B
String Gauge :
.025/ .035/ .045/ .055/ .075/ .095/ .120
Hardware color : Cosmo Black
Scale : 770mm/30.3“
you can see that in japaneze site...so you are between rg2228 and SR7
and by the way it's bolt on right? or not?

I've heard that longer scales actually offer increased "bendability" due to the fact that there is more string between nut and saddles. If I still find it too hard to bend, I will simply decrease the size of my treble strings.
Meshuggah's 8-strings actually have a scale length 30.5". They tune with a low F. I might give extra low tunings a shot, although I don't think that I'd keep it in that, simply because it can become very muddy when playing power chords etc.
That bass-hybrid sounds interesting. I'll definitely give it a look.

Re: RG7 baritone (mockups inside!)
yeah i'm sorry.....i was thinking about rg2228 scale length (27")....sr
yeap meshuggah using punch of baritone 8s....
( ::::
SS:: Ok Marten, we're all gear nuts here - Can you give us a quick rundown on your custom 7 & 8 string Ibanez guitars?
MH: Oh man, lets see. I've got an old black 'n green Ibanez Universe (got it 92/93) that I don't use anymore. It hangs in the studio more like a curiosity. Great guitar though. I got one standard scale black Ibanez Custom 7-string bolt-on neck called "MH" because its got my initials as a fretboard inlay. Another black Ibanez Custom but with Extended scale bolt-on(27 inch if I'm not mistaken) and one Ibanez Custom 27" scale neck-through. Its grey and the lid is Flame-maple I think. I have one Black/worn Nevborn Custom which is standard scale, neck-through. I also got a 7-string acoustic Ibanez. That's it for the 7's.
Now for the 8's. I've got 2 Black Ibanez custom 8's 30" Neck-through. One Ibanez Custom 8 with piezo, black bolt-on neck 30 ". And finally I have a Nevborn custom 8. Black (big surprise) 29" neck-through. Now I'm unsure of the respective wood selections but all guitars except for the Universe are fitted with Lundgren pick-ups.
)
but hold....i'm usin a uv777 in drop G (and tune A) with gauge 070 + 065 and it's just 25.5"
so you can go very loooow
oh and by the way...more inch = less bend cause....
the tension in 24.75" guitars (eclipse, les paul, blabla) it's short = more bend

Quotations from my home-forum...
I realise that, if you keep the string guage and pitch constant, there will be more tension, and this will probably result in less bendability, but, due to the increased length of string between nut and saddles, there is more that you *can* bend. It's hard to describe, but it's not as simple as "longer scale = less bend."

Re: RG7 baritone (mockups inside!)
I hope you dont plan on playin much chords (triads or more) on a baritone like that! doesnt ring out as nicely as 25.5, which is my reason for staying with 25.5 for my ET RG7.

I don't. For that, I have my ES335, which has an even shorter scale (24.75"). I love that guitar. Its tone is so sweet and mellow.
