RG7421 HSS conversion

A while ago I bought a RG7421 from Dee, you might have seen his thread about rescuing it from the horrible state he got it in:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f20/rg...ics-68688.html

I've really grown to like the sound of a single coil in the neck recently, so, I've converted it to HSS with some additional routing and a new pick guard:

The 2 single coils are temporary whilst I wait for some Rio Grandes to arrive - it's really hard to get hold of decent 7 string singles! The Blaze single is not bad as a neck pickup mind you. The bridge is a BKP Nailbomb, direct mounted, and sounds awesome. This is just after I put it all back together hence all the finger marks.

I'm still experimenting with different pick up combinations with the switch. It is pretty standard HSS at the moment but I might alter it so I get neck and bridge(split) as a combination.

And here is the obligatory couch shot, with its other 7 string brethren:

Re: RG7421 HSS conversion

Depends on my mood. The UV7PWH is probably the one I pick up most often, but the Nailbomb in the black RG makes it a bit of a tone monster so I can see that one getting played a lot.

Another point - I'm being really messed about getting hold of the Rio Grande 7's, so if anyone happens to have some good quality 7 string singles available, or know a good supplier, please let me know.

Hey Rob, this looks great! I'm happy it's found a good home. Who made the pickguard, btw?

Pickguard Paradise. I may well cut my own with a few minor adjustments once I've figured out what works best.

Buy a set of cheap 7-string singles (like maybe e3ay item 130140555724) and then send them to Tim at Bareknuckle to be re-wound.
He re-wound three seymour duncan 7-string singles for me and they all sound amazing. He just can't do 7 string singles from scratch because he cant find a supplier for the bobbins, etc. But if you have pickups you can send him then he'll happily re-wind them for you. I have an Irish tour 7 in the neck of a 7 string tele, and a Sinner bridge and Trilogy Suite neck in another guitar.

Re: RG7421 HSS conversion

Serratus, I've already spoken with Tim about that and it may be my only option. I really wanted 2 Trilogies originally, so if all else fails I'll do that.
