RG7620/7420 questions

I just picked up a very customized RG 7 sting. A buddy of mine filled in the neck pickup route, switch and volume knob and repainted it an awesome pink with purple holoflake. The bridge pickup is an Evo7.

Here's a couple of pics he took before sending it to me.

Here's the thing, the bridge is stamped LO-TRS but the neck is stamped 7620. Also, the neck has the bubinga stripe. Did some 7620s come like that? I noticed on the specs page the 7620 was listed as a 3 piece maple neck while the 7420 was listed as maple with the bubinga stripe.

Is the LO-TRS interchangeable with any other (better) 7 string trem? I'm trying to figure out if this was originally a 7420 with a neck upgrade or a 7620 with a bridge downgrade. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much.

Thanks a bunch.

So, is there another trem that can be dropped in place of the LO-TRS-7 without any modification? Or, do I need to make do with the current bridge?

I have a 7420 like that (bubinga stripe) and I have one with a one piece maple neck and scarf joint for the headstock.. both with lo-trs and japanese "F" serial numbers in the Magenta Crush color.

Re: RG7620/7420 questions

I'm pretty sure you can drop an OFR in there without modification. Since the trem and pickups were the only difference between the 7620 and 7420, most of the necks are marked 7620.

i might be wrong, but the LO trs 7 is a japanese trem.

so maybe a LO PRO will fit in it's place?

The Edge trems and TRS trems don't replace each other without routing. The TRS and OFR trems generally do allow for a quick swap, though.

You will have to mod. I had to when I replaced the TRS of my 470 with an edge.

Awesome looking! I love one-humbucker 7 strings (ala F.Thordendahl/Dino)!

ok, i thought that the only reason the korean LO TRS wouldn't swap with an EDGE or LO PRO was because the string spacing was slightly different,

so i assumed cause the LO TRS on the RG7420 is japanese it would be a direct swap.

but if you had to mod with a 470 then it's the exact same senario except 1 extra string.

Re: RG7620/7420 questions

So, has anyone actually done an OFR-7 swap for the LO-TRS-7?

Also, what kind of mods were needed to swap to the Edge-7 bridge?
