I've heard they are crap from a lot of people, but never actually really heard them properly. Even then, I don't think they are going to be much good.
As for the neck, I remember not really liking it as much as a UV when i tried one out, i dunno...

Yeah, I never liked them on either of my 7620's either. *They were way sizzley, just ick, the UV pups are so much nicer!!!!!

That's weird... I got the same DiMarzio Custom 7s in my 1077XL, and they sound great! and there's definately a difference in the tones in all the pickups. The combo selections are really nice sounding too! Are you sure it's the pickups???

i'm starting to wonder too... the dimarzio custom 7's i got in my 7620 sound pretty wonderful, not sizzly or harsh or muddy or whatever. its a bit bassier than i'd like, but i find the tone to be really nice, rounded, and responseful to my picking dynamics...
hmm... kinda makes you wonder...

FWIW - the characteristic that I found specifically not to my liking, was the lack of focus of the sound of the New 7s. They seemed to be all over the place. There's a shred sound there, but it's not as versatile as it ought to be, and so 'fuzzy,' lacking that clarity that a Blaze series pickup has. The same day I picked up my RG7-620-GN, I put the replacement
bridge pickup
on order, and had it within a couple of weeks.
I had been just too used to enjoying a UV7BK with Blaze series pickups in it to allow for the New 7 in there.

Same thing here on my RG7620, it sounds wonderful. Let's compare the years, mine was made in 1998.

and so 'fuzzy,'
Maybe this is the problem... I like that fuzzyness... yet, the notes are still very clear and crisp... (maybe that's due to my XL neck)... but I've no problems with the tone...
