RG7CT pickups

what the heck are they? Specs just say Dimarzio N2 and B2. Are they any good? If I get this guitar, should I switch em out to blazes or something? They ARE Dimarzio designed...but if I know Ibanez pickups, they're usually weak and sterile sounding. Anyone know?

They're Dimarzio New 7's (same pickups that are in the J-Custom RG8527 and JCRG-7). They're pretty good pickups and they are made by Dimarzio(not dimarzio designed). Swapping out the pickups for blazes or something is really a matter of personal preference as some people like the New 7's some don't(but then again some people like the Blazes, some don't also...)

...and, having played New 7's in a basswood 7620 and mahogany CST, they sound WAY better in mahogany, IMO. They're really surprisingly good pickups, though as I believe they're voiced the same as the new Dimarzio/IBZ's in Prestiges they've gotten a bad rap by people who aren't willing to give them a fair shot, or who don't agree that "not right for me" and "they suck" aren't the same thing.

I'd try them for a few weeks. The bridge one in particular, with it's prominant mid scoop and sharp highs, provides a killer rhythm tone in mahogany.

I'm definately going to give em' a go since I just bought the CT. If I don't like them after a week or two I'll order a JB/59 set. The Dimarzio tech said the New 7s are similar to a Super Distortion (bridge) and a Super 2 (neck). Sounds kinda nifty .

I liked the New7's I put in my old 7321.. I like em more than the blaze's in my Universe..

Well, actually, it's just a matter of taste, but I find real Blazes sound a clearer and cleaner. The Super D and Super 2 are just too high output, especially the Super 2 in the neck.

Well, but there's a world of change when the guitar is mahogany. No doubt I absolutely love blazes in basswood, but I don't know how they'd fare in mahogany. I know the JB is legendary for it so if I do switch em it would would be to those, but the New 7's just might do it for me if they're mid scooped with sharp highs like Drew said. I like some crunch with my low end .

the rg7ct pickups will sound horrible to you, after u replace them with real pickups. Its beyond me why ibanez used them for that guitar. Once i put an evo7 in the bridge, and an7 in the neck, it sounded like cobwebbs were cleaned off the strings.

i ended up putting my new 7s in my ax7521. way better in mahogany than basswood. i've had them in my 7620, 7321, and now my ax7521. there, they will stay.

To each his own, I like the Blazes better. I had some put in my Custom RG 7620, it blows my other 7620 (GN) away. I love the Blaze pickups in both my UVs, they are my favorite pickups. The New7s are great pickups though IMO.
