Rusty Cooley Signature Dean 7 string
What do you think, its not much to look at but definately a
shred machine
. Im not sure how these things will sell since he's the only person on earth that needs those specs to do what he does.

Really nice axe. Not sure I'm keen on the EMG707's though.

Re: Rusty Cooley Signature Dean 7 string
I like a lot of the design aspects, like the lower horn being cut away, the jem style input jack lol, no tone knob, the cutaway being further back then the 24th (something I've always been dead set on doing the guitars I will build, once I get more $$$) and the fact that he said he won't put his initials on the 12th. The headstock is cool up until you see the square end of it, thats probably my only complaint...

I'm not buying that as a concept, but to each his own, I guess.

Re: Rusty Cooley Signature Dean 7 string
i like the idea of the horn that is wide but also the body isnt so deep at the horn, definitely makes sense to do that IMO, i remember the first time trying to play a big stretch lick on the
low strings
at
high frets
, very awkward!!

Seriously it sounded awful. I think another example is petruccis thing were he plays bursts of notes to make the pickup distort. Cooley plays that fast 90% of when hes playing.
I mean emgs have to be good for something besides paperweights.

Re: Rusty Cooley Signature Dean 7 string
I think it's alright...I don't really like the lower horn compared to the upper horn which is so much thicker...I realise it's for better access but it looks funny IMO, I like the white bound fretboard though, it's just that I like his Ibanez 7s better. Cool video.

That's what I was thinking. I'd like to check that out if they did that but I haven't been impressed with Dean guitars in the past.

As i said before MAB is coming out with a new signature 6 string which is suppose to be something new , granted that rusty and MAB know each other and i think MAB is the reason rusty went to dean i'd suppect that MAB's signature will be shred-tastic .
as to the comment about the white
neck binding
rusty said that production models would have black binding .
as far as dean guitars in the past , from abour 2001 till now they have been under better managment and have really improved over the past few years . The guitars aren't for everyone , most dont have thinner necks , they are more chunky , the V profile however is very shredable and is by far the shape i have come to perffer , i can't stand the way an original wizard feels anymore , they are just too thin .
anyways different strokes for different folks. I am looking forward to rusty's model , i may not like the thinness of the original wizard in 6 string version but the wider 7 string however might be more comfortable to me .

Re: Rusty Cooley Signature Dean 7 string
Thin necks, baby, give them to me as skinny as they come, I LOVE IT! I'm wondering, really, what's the absolutely thinnest neck on the market, and what's the thinnest stable neck physically possible?
As far as EMG's go - with all the hype surrounding them, I want to like them. I really do! But I tried out an ESP (one that looked like Buckethead's super-SG - white with black binding,
ebony fretboard
) loaded with 81's - and it was horrid. Cleans were absolute garbage, and the
distorted tone
was very cold and scooped. Could have been the wiring (never been a fan of two volume and tone knobs), but the poor performance definately put me off, especially since an Indonesian RG7321 with stock pickups blew it to tiny pieces in all departments, in my opinion.
Still, I haven't tried out any 707's. Though, I do live in Sweden - where the sevenstring market is scarce at best. Getting a hold of a dinky cow (ha ha) or Schecter Hellraiser is haaaard.
... talk to me, I'm at work.

Oh, come on you do not need EMGs to play that fast through an amp....
Two words.
