S-series 7string..

so i was passing by a pawnshop just now,i see a black s-series in the window,go up close for a closer look, note the sticker price of $800 and started thinking thats a bit much...until i look closely, realise its a 7string and nearly **** myself :P
i would've gone in straight away to check it out,but they were closed. can't find any info on this guitar online though, all the 7string S's in the catalogs/reviews have H/H or H/S/H pickup configurations...the weird thing about this is that it was a H/S/S!
anyone know what model this is? no mounting ring for all the pickups, standard ibanez logo on the headstock (no s-series thing),finish looks like a dull blackish color. "custom made" inlay somewhere on the fretboard, can't remember.

Its a 540S7, they were made only in 1991, they are hard to find, so I would say, go for it, the pickups are DiMarzio Blaze II, and it has the lo-pro edge, unlike the S 7-strings that came later, they are very good guitars!

i was thinking, since there's an RG7, why not an off the shelf S7 too? for want of a mahagony 7-string other than a current particular signature model...

There was an S7420 for quite a few years, but it had (unfortunately) a TRS. The 540S7 is a sweet and rare guitar, which i'm sure many people would be happy to see come back.

For now, the only commonly available mahogany-bodied 7s from Ibanez are the 2027x, 2127x and K7. And even those aren't too common.

Again quoting my famous '93 european catalogue:

Model: S540-7
Finish: BK

Neck: 1 Piece Maple, Wizard, non-AANJ
Frets: 22 Jumbo frets
Fingerboard: Rosewood with Pearloid Dot inlays
Bridge: Lo-Pro Edge-7
Hardware: Cosmo Black
Neck/Middle PU: BLAZERII Single Coil

Nice axe. Get it, and then give it to me

S5407 soon to be for sale...

So...$800 is a high price for a 6string Saber, but is that too much to ask for a S5407? I mean it's a rare one made in '91 and it's over ten years old at this point...

I guess my point is this...my S5407 has been sitting under my bed in a case for years (I'm trying to keep it as mint as possible). Anyway I want to get a Mesa Recto, and I've been thinking about selling it (and other things) to help pay for the amp. Problem is I don't know what is a good price to sell it for, and what's too much too ask for it. I don't want to rip anyone off, but I'm poor and need the $$ for the amp.

I do know that the flamed blue one went for about $1,000 new at Guitar Center, and mine went for about the same when I bought it in '94. Is $1,000 too much to sell it for?

contact spookyalbers@yahoo.com -- I check this site less than I should...

PS things on their way out to make $$ and room for the Recto (and a new guitar) are this:

**Ibanez SF420 - black pearl (GC special) w/ hipshot d-tuner and Duncan JB in the bridge. Currently a F-spaced Duncan Custom is in the neck. W/ case
**Charvel Fusion 4 - black w/ floyd. (My first guitar) 24.75" scale. Highly stickered and busted Charvel case to accompany if desired.
**Custom Star body - Candy apple red. Looks like an Ibanez Destroyer/Dimebag Darrell model, but classier. W/ gig bag.

The $800 price referred to at the beginning of this thread wasn't U.S. dollars... it was Singapore dollars, which is about US$450.

$1000 would be way out of range for your guitar. I think $500 to $600 (max) would be about what you can expect to get if it is indeed in mint condition.

By the way, if you have stuff for sale, please post it in the Classifieds section.

Welcome to Jemsite!
