s7420 EMG's, Need some help [pics]
So here is what I have going on:
I've routed it out and fit twin emg 81-7's in it, but I have a few questions and you guys always have the answers.
Can I use the original input from the S? I heard that they were stereo inputs.
Also, I purchased a 3-way blade switch and have never wired one of these with emg's, Any advice? I can't seem to find the diagram for this type of switch:

On that type of blade switch, the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 inline leads correspond to the 1,2,3,4 (side a) and 5,6,7,8 (side B) dual-line leads of the basic 3-way.
I have a schematic for wiring EMG's, but it uses the dual-line (4 leads per side) instead of the 8-inline. With some experimentation, and the basic diagram, it's not too hard to figure out, though.
How did you do the route? I'm considering doing the exact same thing on my Ibanez 7, and I want to do a nice job and protect the finish. Any tips are great!

I used a hand held Dremel of all things, and just took my time. The easiest way that I found while practicing with blocks of wood is to use a fine sanding bit on the Dremel near the finish. It makes a smoth clean edge and looks really nice. As for internal routing, I just used a basic routing bit and sunk in cavaties for the wires. after it was all cleared out and I was happy with it, I used flat black paint and a brush in the inside to clean it up. I was worried that depth would be a problem and I would have to sink the pickup in further than the old pickups, but it wasn't a problem at all.

Excellent Navarone. Thank you. I appreciate the info. If I do it, and run into a problem, look for a private message

I just installed EMG 707's in an RG7621, or what i'd like to call, RG7PWH. Anyway, i used the dremel as well. Takes longer but much more accurate. Last time i installed emg 707's i used a router and it didnt come out half as nice.

When you guys did the route, did you use the Dremel freehand?

Re: s7420 EMG's, Need some help [pics]
i did. i sat on a piano bench with the bench between my legs faceing out from me. Then i put the
guitar body
down in front of me. I felt this gave me the most stable stance to prevent slip ups. Then i bent foward and used both hands on the router like chairlies mother washing clothes in the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I put masking tape around the pup hole as boundaries so i wouldnt route too much off the body. Then again, i did plan on using a pickguard from the start, so for me it didnt have to be perfect.
And by the way, since theres no more 5 way switch for me, that area is where i place the 9V battery held by this...
http://www.keyelco.com/products/prod52.asp
I'm using the aluminum chassis one with the solder terminls. This will replce the original 707's battery clip.

Sepsis, awesome! Thanks. I think that's the way I'll try it as well (after practicing a few times on some boards.

Nice mod, Navarone.
I have mine stock. I actually like the V7(7) and V8(7) pickups. They've grown on me.

Yes. I took out the old pickups and laid the 81-7's on top on the area and traced it out and worked very slowly checking the fit over and over. It was fairly easy. It’s just getting the nerves to start hacking away at your guitar.

Yes, getting the nerves is definately the biggest step.
