Hi,
I am new to the forum. I just picked up a s7420fmtw 7 string from american musical supply for $549, with the twilight blue finish. This guitar lists for 1399 and luckily for me, american musical had just a couple that they were trying to unload. I've been searching for one for a while because this is undoubtabley the best designed and sounding 7 string guitar from this generation of the S guitars (probably due to the
flame maple top). If you've ever seen one, and there werent too many made, they are a real eye catcher. If it were selling for $1000, I would definately have reservations considering the average (at best) trem and the pickups. Since i have plenty of money now for mods, the pickups are going and being replaced with an evolution and
air norton.
My problem is the trem (lo-trs 7). After much searching, I have finally located someone who can sell me the lo-pro edge 7 brand new. I, of course ,would have a veteran luthier do the install. Just how much work are we talking here? I wouldnt think that one would fly right in, in place of the other. That would just be way too easy. I dont want to buy the trem (rather pricey I must say) only to find out i need to do significant rework to guitar in the form of major routing or other structural work. Can any of you give me an idea here of what i am in for? I'm not a big trem user. I use it to add color here and there but I definately dont wrestle with the thing. Should i leave it alone or do the lo-trs problems go deeper than just holding tune, such as sustain and tone issues? Please help me out here.
