So far a lot of playing is done(Steep learning curve with an extra string and the Low End) All I have been doing is learning A Change of Seasons intro by Dream Theater, and alot of mind numbing power chords to explore the thump.(so much I already blew out my speaker even at low volumnes)

There is a bit of string buzz on the low B, but not so bad that it interfers with playing. The action is a bit high but i will try to set it up tomorrow. All the notes play ok over the neck, sustain is fairly well. The guitar was shipped in tune (a first for me to see) and it kept the tune pretty well.

The pickup's say Duncan Designed on them. They sound better than the V8 sounds like on my Mahogany RG520QS. But eally muddy on the low end, and lack of singing tone on the highend (Maybe a vintage tuned sound). Over-all I can live with these Pup's alot more than with my RG520QS's stock V7 - V8 combo.

The craftsmenship is not all that great. You can see a differences in seams where body wood pieces are joined (Not surface planed after construction) And the gromets for the strings to go through the body are not even close to being even or inline, Will post close up later(maybe they allow drinking on the assembly lines in Korea).

One thing I am not sure is whether these models remain consistant through the years. Since the one's online seems to have a different head stock depending on which music store you do your shopping at.

I will try to record some sound bits tomorrow as well.

Here are the advertised specs:

The recording quality isn't amazing (a little weak in the highs), but near as I can tell, I'm liking the basic tone, even with the pickups that you weren't overly thilled with. Good low end presence, anyway. What are you plugged into? I'd be curious to hear this with a better set of pickups and a clearer recording, but the upshot is it seems to be confirming my suspicion that I need an alder-bodied 7. Cool. The pinch harmonics in particular are jumping out nicely.

For recording I am using the following...

http://www.***************.com/srs7/...base_id/101845

Soundcard: Edirol UA-1A USB audio interface,
Mixer: Nady MM4 mixer,
Monitor: Edirol MA-5A monitor pair,
Mike: Shure PG58 mic

This with sounds from a Crate DXJ112.

I will most likely have to tweak with the sounds more as I am very much a beginner on recording with the computer. But I'm more and more into the 7 string everyday. The pickup's really dont sound bad at all. They lack a bit in high and gain. But they make that up in clarity and warmth. Something my 520QS with V7 and V8 never had.

But I am very satisfied with this, Rich dont have to liquidate his Universe collection or anything.

I will do a comparison to a RG7421XL this weekend and let yall know.

Sounds like it's got decent tone for both clean and distorted work -- and I know what you mean about the learning curve -- I've been having fun transposing old 80's tunes to the lower register on my 7-string, but it still takes some getting used to in terms of my fingers "feeling" the right place to be at.

Thanks for posting the pics and the mp3's!
