the RG2027 pickup rout is a little bigger than the rout in the 7620s. the 2027 has rounded channels for the metal pickup mounting tabs and it has a deeper groove in the bottom of the rout for protruding pole piece screws like on the Duncans.

you noticed! i haven't actually put Duncans in my 2027, only in my 7620s, but i've seen the guts of the 2027 while installing DiMarzios. the rout in the 2027 is more suited to Duncan design than the 7620, that's all i can say for certain.

the TZ7 is muddy in the 2027. i've bought a Duncan Custom 7 to put it in there, but i haven't done it yet since i might sell the 2027 if i don't play it much with my LACS S7. so i can say lots of other stuff, but i can't say "yes!" for sure.

Duncans will fit in a 2027, but they sit very high in the body. I was able to switch the back plates and that helped, but the pole peices still protrude a lot. There wasn't a deeper route on mine, but that might have changed on the later runs (mine is a late '99). I actually have a Duncan Distortion in the bridge of mine, so it will fit, but I had to swap the back plate from the Tone Zone that was in there before. The pole peices of the plates on the stock pickups don't line up with the Duncans, but you might be able to use a dremel and remove enough metal from the plate to make it work.

I had to drill holes for each of the 7 pole pieces in my 2027 to install Duncans (JB7 Bridge and Jazz Neck). I had two choices - either shorten the pole pieces or drill holes as without either modification, the pole pieces were too long and the pup sat too high.
