Re: some 7 string questions

I gotta say.. After I never liked the sound Ibanez 7 strings had. Then I played on an ESP M-107 and fell in love. The sound was great on its own... Then I went out and bought the EMGs for it and its the love of my life now. I use some extra heavy gauge strings and tune the sucker down to A flat for my death metal band. 7 strings are where its at, son! and not all guitar store guys are morons. Just do your homework before you talk to them and if they are wrong, correct them... Thats the only way they will get better. God forbid they help someone else out and they listen to them... Maybe thats why there are crappy bands out there... They listened to those guitar store guys!!

GET OUT. NOW. I'm joking but you don't see too many who prefer emgs here lol.

uh-huh. if i've learnt one thing from my experiences at guitar stores (about 4 years worth) is to NEVER, EVER trust anything any one of those bastards tells you. seriously, the amount of times i've been told something and later found it out to be completely incorrect is huge.

anyway, i was wondering, does that extra 5mm on the neck affect you that much? does it make it noticeably harder to play certain things? i have small hands but i've never really run into any lick that i've found hard to play because of the size of my hands.
Most commercial guitar/music stores are filled with employees who have no idea what they are talking about. Research everything yourself.

Width of neck: Honestly, that's a tough one. It makes no difference to me - I play 7 strings, 6 strings, 12 strings, classical, mandolin - never really think about it, but I know it affects a lot of players. Unfortunately the only way to be sure is to try it out.

No need to drop D tune...low B chords sounds killer. And regarding the sig models...almost all of my guitars are Vai models (except for RGA321 and my Taylors)...and I have never once heard a comment from anyone in the audience about it. I think we guitarists let some of that crap play in our heads too much....if the UV is the only 7 with the pickup arrangement you need, then get over the silly head games and get one. They are awesome guitars and isn't that the REAL point when buying an instrument?
7 strings are definitely not "metal only." I've been playing jazz on those I own for years, and I usually use the low B instead of the jazz low A. A 7 gives you so many more chord choices and the low end comes in handy if you play in a trio with just a keyboardist and a percussionist, as I often do.

As for signature models, yeah I think people get too hung up on that stuff. I mean technically the Les Paul is a signature model but no one gets tripped out on that.

So, you're advice is to buy an UV7BK rather than a UV777BK?? Because I´m looking for a 7 string to buy.......

Thanks!!

Re: some 7 string questions

After about 2 hours playing I didn't even noticed it had one more string.
The only thing that took me more time to get used to was fingering chords.I don't know how it's called in english, when you play each string of a chord separately.Sometimes I played the wrong string.Just it.In fact the neck of my prestige is SO awesome that it's easier to play than the majority of 6 strings I've played in about 20 years !
But don't forget you are paying more for just 5 notes more, only to make chuka chuka heavy riffs LOL

To play the notes of a chord separately is called arpeggiating. On that note, seven string sweeps are awesome.

Yea, when I first got mine it took me alittle bit to get used to it. Now I rarely touch a 6 string and when I do I have to rethink what I'm doing because I'm used to 7 strings.

At the moment the Universe is the only thing you can buy from Ibanez with a single coil in it...brand new, that is. However, I'd be more than happy to make one for you. ....and I'll be making necks soon too.
