Some pointy guitar jazz
Since a few have you have already discovered my music on your own, I thought I'd post a taste of what some jazz can sound like on an Ibanez 7 string. A warning, it's not exactly wht you might expect from a 7421 XL.

I played one at the NAMM show in January. Nice guitar and great value given the rpice of a good arch top. There's a nice one on GBase that I believe is going for around $1600. Here's a link.

Very cool stuff man! I'm not the worlds biggest fan of jazz, but I can appreciate some really well played jazz, and I must say I really enjoyed that. Keep up the good work!

Very, VERY smooth.
It is a nice change from the type of stuff you usualy hear coming out of a RG7.
Do you just play it at home or do you play it live as well.
I can just imagine the faces of the audience when you go up on stage and take out a very pointy rock guitar out of it's case.
I bet a few would be very sceptical until you started playing.

I haven't played out with it yet, but my main working instrument is a Schecter
USA custom shop
Sunset 7, so it's not realy all THAT much of a change. I've always preferred solid bodies. They're more comfortable, more convenient, easier to maintain and no feedback hassles. So there's always a little scepticism until I start to play.
And tubaraodesigns, I couldn't agree more. Brazilian music rules.

That Schecter Sunset-7 is sweet.
I was looking at it on your Performance Schedule subpage months ago and trying to work out what it was.
Also really like the Schecter Jazz-7 that you are holding on the "bio" page.
The only Sunset-7 I've seen had flying birds inlayed on the fretboard and it looked a bit much. I like yours much more with simple dot markers.

I guess Schecter knows who their market is, but I really hate seeing their fingerboards with flys and skulls and other crap like that. It's a real shame, because they make incredible guitars. My Sunset-7 is one of the nicest guitars I've ever owned. The craftsmanship is just outrageous.
One of the nicest things about the Schecter USA guitars is that they have absolutely no resale value, so you can pick them up for a song. There's a really nice S7 on Ebay right now with a maple board and Tom Anderson pickups with a buy-it-now around $650 and it may not even make it that high.

Jim, I've had that on repeat in winamp for a while now. That's
cool
. I've been playing 7-string jazz for a while now, if badly. It's nice to hear it done right.
now... got any tabs or suggested chord voicings for this sorta stuff you'd care to share with us?

Let me ask you a simple question first, is your low string tuned to an A or a B?

B. Let me guess, you go down to A? If you tune to A, don't worry about it- it's probably best for me to stop being lazy and work these out on my own, anyway...
You know, that cracks me up to no end... that the two places you see people playing 7's in drop A are the nu-metal world... and the jazz world.

Yes, I'm tuned to an A. The rest is standard tuning. Several years ago I had a chance to see George Van Eps and Howard Alden several times, both seperately and together. Howard was gracious enough to spend a little time with me and give me his advise on how to make the switch to 7 string. I didn't actually do it until a few years later, but it was his advise that I used to make the transition, including the A tuning. I tried the B tuning before that and I couldn't make any sense of it at all, but with the low A, it was just a completely natural transition. Because the E is a natural 5th above the A, it also accomodates an alternating bass line really well. Here's a sample of what I mean.
