Some questions on the 2077XL

I'm considering a 2077XL. Does anybody know if the humbuckers in this guitar are the the New 7s as in a 1077XL and the 7620? Or are they Dimarzio/IBZ like in all other 2xxx series. I can't find any info on that.

Wil transition from shortscale to bariton scale be difficult?
I'm intending to tune in B and get extra tight bass strings.

Yeah, they are the New7's/Custom7's... same pups that are in the 1077 and 7620.

They're actually pretty decent sounding for Ibanez stock pickups, but I changed 'em in my 1077 to Dimarzio Blaze neck/single/custom, which brought just a little more definition to my tone (the Blazes are some of my favorite pickups of all time).

You should have no problems tuning it to B... that's how mine was tuned when I received it, and I played it that way for several weeks before I retuned it to AEADGBE. The extra length is most noticable when riffing down by the nut, but it didn't take long to get used to.

Don't have one of those, but I will echo brent's recommendation on the Blazes. Awesome sounding pickups for any seven string. They are very even sounding, very balanced and very fat and full sounding.

I've had two UVs with them. The UV777BK was a bit brighter sounding overall than my current PWH, that's the darkest and fattest sounding guitar I've ever owned. Those characteristics in a seven are just the ultimate. Don't know if just the age of it and the way the wood has matured and dried or if the pickups are different now than they were 12 years ago.

Yea, it's the New-7s, that's just what they call them in their spec-sheet-thingies

sorry to revive this thread.

when tuned to B, how many springs did you have without the bridge lifting way up? mine came tuned in A, and i'm trying to get it to B.

edit: oops. i meant it came tuned to 'standard' A.

I've got 3 springs in my 1077, tuned to B. I thought I'd have to change it to the arrow formation but I've got it set nicely with the springs straight. Gives me just enough play on the trem too.

Mine came tuned in standard from the previous owner. I put 10-68 on there and tuned it to A. Still only use 3 springs and all is well
