Stambaugh Fanned Fret 8 String
Hi! I wanted to start this thread to spread the word about Chris Stambaugh. He is located in New Hampshire, and his site is
http://stambaughdesigns.com
. A few months ago I was looking for a custom 8 and was not pleased with some of the high prices out there, especially when trying to a get a fanned fret neck. I just got an 8 string made by Chris and it is amazing. Low B to High A, 26"-23.75 scale, Lundgren Pickups, Walnut top,
Mahogony Body
, Birdseye
maple fretboard
- total price was around $2200. I have been reading some of the posts for players looking for alternatives to higher priced custom shops, and I think this guy is great. I have a few pics on my site right now
(
http://ericclemenzi.com/media.php?catagory=Pictures
) and will try to have some of the finer details up in the near future and maybe some sound clips. He is a cool guy and really knows his stuff.

Re: Stambaugh Fanned Fret 8 String
The
fanned fret
doesn't take that long to get used to- it is pretty comfortable. The thing that takes the most adjustment for me is remembering I have an extra string on top.

That's an interesting bridge. What is it? Any close-up pictures?

Re: Stambaugh Fanned Fret 8 String
I have a friend who has a Stambaugh custom bass. His second one is due any day now. He loves 'em. He says Stambaugh will do virtually anything you want. Of course, somethings aren't worth doing. Case in point: 7405513459. Uugh.
