Stereo 8 strings

So boredom spawned an 8 string off the cuff which went badly wrong and ended up as a two eight string tandem build.

So I find a rough piece of old timber and plane it down to find a stunning piece of Pomelle Sapele

Hmm I see an 8 string in this.

All was going well untill I took my eye off the game and planed the waste wood off the wrong end of the neck

so this is the would be neck through sawed down for a bolt on .

Glued this smoked Tulip Wood up completely then changed my mind and had to break it all away with wood chisels to separate it from the neck and top wings , Tite Bond is very strong

Upper top wing with sound holes.

Head stock glued on.

Another nice surprise exits the thickness er. Very purple looking and I don't know what it is ?

I found a small sample of this unknown wood and thinned it down for the headstock...

and hacked some B E Maple for finger boards.

I changed the shape of the horns.

I like where this is going. Also very nice headstock veneer! But what is going on the body? A top, a veneer or nothing?

Nothing . The top is a nice piece of semi spalted Birds eye Maple.

Progress report for today.
Bad news on this neck,I noticed it had started to twist slightly so I ripped it in half and put a purple heart center in the middle and planed it flat again, I'll look at it in a couple of weeks to see if its stable.

So I had to make a back up neck .

Clamped the back on.

Routed out for some Carvin actives.

Made a bit of progress tonight with the neck that was twisted but now has a purple heart center which has solved the prob.

Went for 2 truss rods.

This needs a bit more design to it.

Glued and clamped . Time for TV and beer

Wow man that neck with the purple heart has some major quilting in it. That is going to be stunning when it gets a little... tung oil maybe? It's a beautiful chunk of wood man
