Stock 7 string pickups
A friend of mine just got a new RG7420 a couple of days ago and while looking at it, I noticed that the pickups seem to be different from my RG7620. I was always told on this forum that both models had those New7"s. On the RG7420 I saw, the outer coil had the hex poll pieces and the inner had non hex poll pieces. But my 1997 RG7620 has hex poll pieces on all of the coils. My question is, are these the same pickups? Or which is the New7"s. The ones in my RG7620 sound pretty good through my amp. I searched through this forum and did not find the differnce between the two. Thanks for helping my confusion
Cheers, James

I'm pretty sure the early 7620s came with
Dimarzio Blaze
pickups, same as the UVs. Mine has 'em, identical to the ones that were in my UV777BK. My 2027 has the other ones (V7 and V8 or whatever).
Blazes sound good to me, especially in Basswood.

The RG7420 has always come with the V7 and V8's. It's only the 7620/21 that has the New7, and the older ones had Blazes...

Try again, folks...
7420's and 2027 came with V-series pickups
7620's came with New/Custom 7 pickups--they never came with blazes or blaze II's
Here's the details:

I am pretty sure the first 7620's to hit the market had blazes in em. Well that's what I've seen everyone say here. And the
local guitar shop
here used to have a black 7620 that never got sold...that had Blazes in it...at least that's what my fried who works there said...

I suppose they never came with one piece
maple necks
either.
Nothing is written on the bottom of the pickups so I guess I can't prove it, but these guitars have had production changes over time. Who knows what went in at what time.

yea they seem to have changed alot over the years.
I remember the one I was talking about at the local
guitar shop
had a one piece
maple neck
.
They also just got a used one in...they think it's a 7620. But they rn't sure.
It's like metallic blue or somethin it does have the lo pro trem on it, that's why they said it was a 7620, but they rn't sure what pups r in it...and I can't quite remember, but it might have had a one piece maple neck too...

In all fairness, Ibanez did initially advertise the 7620's as coming with
Blaze pickups
. But they never came with Blaze pickups stock--they were always Dimarzio/Ibanez hybrids, which later became known as the New7, and shortly thereafter became known as the Custom7.
I remember when my friend, who bought a 7620 the first year they came out, first removed the pickups and found out they weren't real Blazes. If it was a real Blaze, it would be stamped with DP700 something on the back.

When he removed those pickups, what was there to show they weren't blazes. I have removed mine and found nothing to suggest what they are. And I've read on this forum people saying Dimarzio's they have bought as after market have had no markings.
Cheers, James
