String gauges?

After having searched the forums for a suitable topic, I found that this particular, rather individual, question needs its own thread.
I've got an RG7321, and I love it. The sole gripe I have with it (It's strung with D'Addario's) is that the factory-supplied low B-string is sloppy - doesn't fit well for hammers/pulls, buzzes against the fretboard (fixed this by pulling action further back and higher) and has a generally loose tension that makes it harder to play fast. So therefore, I'm asking you all what string gauge I should change it to. Problem being, I don't know the gauge of it... but if it helps you helping me, I'd like it to have the same tension as a low E regularly has, meaning TIGHT.
Thanks in advance.

NOTE: I only want to replace the low B.

Re: String gauges?

Try a .56 or a .58. For me, I think a .58 is about right for a 7, but honestly, you're probably better off starting with the .56 and then seeing if it still feels a little too light.

Agreed.

If you're tuning to A or lower, look into a .060 or more. Lotta people get good results with a .070.

I'm getting my 7 string in just a couple of days. That's good info to know. Thanks.

Re: String gauges?

Ibanez 7 strings come stock with 9-54...it is kinda wierd that your b string is sloppy...It may be due to the fact that you may be down tuning your guitar... on standard tuning in all my guitars the B's are pretty tight..as I matter of fact I usually set my guitar 1/2 step down which gives me a loose feeling on the string which I play faster....

the string size is a personal thing like your picks and your pickups...what works for other may not work for you...

Re: String gauges?

.10-.60 works well for one whole step down (ADGCFAD) . A thorough set-up may help as well (if you haven't yet). Hope this helps !

Re: String gauges?

I used a 56 for years, but recently I bumped up to a 60. It works very well for B and A tuning.
