THe 7421XL with a couple of upgrades.

A few weeks ago, I put a Dimarzio PAF in the neck position and installed the Hipshot bridge on my 7421XL. Since I did both upgrades at the same time, It's impossible to know which did what, but between the two, the sound got substantially warmer. I finally did a bit of recording with it last night. I realize that this is not the tone most of the folks on this forum go after, but I was really pleased with it.

Sounds great! Is the intonation better with the new bridge? Really nice.

Hard to say if it improved the intonation. It was already pretty good, probably better than any 7 string I've ever had. What it seems to have added is some weight and clarity to the notes, while darkening the tone a bit. The sustain has defintely improved as well. If I had to guess, I would say that the sustain and weight are coming from the bridge and the warmth from the pickup. But where ever the tone is coming from, this is as pleased as I've ever been with the sound of a 7 string.
