Somehow I think 7 strings will be around for a while...

I mean it beats the hell out of drop d, unless you're a complete newb...

drop D has its virtues too, many great guitarists have used drop D so you cant just write it off.

this is true...you wouldn't have Bad Horsie if it weren't for the one finger power chords of drop C tuning. It has it's place...I'd still take a 7 for versatility though. But don't expect to play Bad Horsie on one .

Id rather my Ibanez Prestige RG1527 be worth $1 on the market than not be able to buy it again, or any MIJ Ibanez 7 for that matter. Its all very well to say ''our guitars instantly become more valuable'' but why is that a good thing? once you sell it then what? if they become more valuable they are more likely to be stolen, and its going to much harder and more expensive to buy new ibanez 7s. Only my opinion though buddy.

I recon the Ibanez 7-string will still exist for quite a while. I mean the Unis are selling well, so are the RG1527s and RG7321s. They should get rid of those horrific K7s though. Sales for them have been poor since day 1. What do you guys think of this notion of Ibanez bringing out an Ibanez prestige 8-string that some people are convinced is going to happen? I think its a ridiculous notion. They only have two 7-strings in the entire RG lineup and people think that an 8-string is going to be introduced?? just because they made dino one............

And why wouldn't you be able to play bad horsie on an 7-string? tune the low B to G and the rest to the normal Drop C. if you wanted to you could just leave the low B as it is and tune the rest to drop C. I agree completely with red5. you can do anything and MORE on a 7-string than what you can do on an 6-string.

Re: the death of the 7 string - why 7 string popularity is falli

Too many guitarists who didn't jump on the band wagon when 7 strings first became huge are now faced with all this negative media. A lot of guys who are considering to switch to 7 string beasts (myself included) have been warned off, mainly because the instrument has been marketed as a NU METAL axe. I personally wanted a 7 a few years ago but I never got around to buying one as I was travelling as a backpacker for a long time.

Just recently, I stumbled across this site when I was looking for advanced guitar tutorials and my interest in the 7 was aroused again. I had some doubts about whether my type of music would suit being belted out on a 7 last week however that all changed. I picked up a Jackson 7 (not sure of the model) at my local guitar shop and fell head over heels in love with it.

I write my own songs and I have done for about 3 years now. I haven't commited any of my material to a band as I haven't found people with similar ideas and drive... this will be made even harder now as I want to start a 7 string based band. I also moved to Finland after a girl I met as a backpacker got pregnant, so I have language difficulties and money problems.

The metal scene over here is great and I'm going to scrape my pennies together and get a nice 7. Hopefully in the next year I will be able to share with you all, a different type of rock on the 7 beast. I think that the apparent drop in popularity is only temporary... as people start to realise that you don't have to be a KoRn cover band to justify owning these babies... sales will shoot back up and production will progress even further.

As long as Vai continues to obliterate these wonderful creations, people like you and me will be inspired, curious and purchasers of the big fat 7

Re: the death of the 7 string - why 7 string popularity is falli

Bands like Meshuggah and Nevermore have definatly injected the 7-string spirit.

It seems that 50% of all people doing the guitar course at my college have a 7-string... It's mental. I thought i was the only person in my area that owned one but after i bought one, 4 other guys i knew bought them (no doubt after hearing me *wink wink*) and then tons of other 7-stringers popped up around the area.

I don't think 7-strings are dying, they're growing even more if anything.

swing by www.sevenstring.org sometime - we're not dead by anymeans, we've just gone underground.

Nevermore in particular is cause to have faith in the seven string community - they're a truely contemporary metal band, playing absolutely brutal music, and the guitar playing is just absurdly good in that group.

Dream on.

That's not to say I wouldn't throw myself over one if that'd happen.

Well why the **** would you introduce the RG7620 when you have the RG1527!? The RG1527 has a way better neck, a trem just as good as an Lo-Pro, prestige build quality (im just amazed with the quality of mine), an awesome case, and much much lower List price, despite inflation!! The single advantage i can think of is that the RG7620 came with the Dimarzio News (the ones in the RG1527 pretty horrible) which many people had varyed opnions anyway. So i can't think why you would want the RG7620 back, its so similar to the RG1527 i mean the RG1527 was introduced to bring the RG7620 into the prestige line. So i would happily take an RG1527 anyday and just replace the pickups. It would still cost way less than the RG7620 at list price. Im extremely happy with my RG1527 and soon im going to install an EMG 81-7 and 707 set. Although i do wish they would give more colour choices incase i want buy another.........

Re: the death of the 7 string - why 7 string popularity is falli

Im with Roland on the 7620s. I have 2 and one of them I've had for 8 years and it was my first 7. Im sure the 1527 is nice and I've seen many happy people who love theirs here and at www.sevenstring.org . Im just an old school RG 7620 type of guy. I still love my PWH the most thought. I think they should bring the S 7420 back as well but this time with a Lo Pro. Luckily I got my hands on one before they discontinued them. : -)
