The final designs for my 7 string project

We've finally completed the body and neck designs for my 7 string project. There are now going to be two versions, one with a pair of stereo humbuckers from the Duncan custom shop. The other will have a pair of standard Dimarzio PAF 7's plus a Graphtech Ghost piezo bridge and a blend control. The scale is the same 27 inches and with a similar neck profile as the Ibanez XL models (although it's a 22 fret neck). It also features a graphite re-inforced one piece maple neck with a tilt back peg head and a pau ferro fingerboard. Hopefully I'll have the 2 prototype instruments completed by mid July with a similar pair of baritones by the fall.

Here are a couple of graphics were just completed the other day.

It looks like a very cool design. Its a semi-hollow body, right?

It's a chambered body with a seperate top, more like a Tele thinline than a semi-hollow.

I can't wait to see it completed. Looks like a very solid, good sounding guitar. What kinda music are you going to play/write on it?

I play mostly jazz with the extra string tuned to a low A. I'm hoping that it will be a good general purpose instrument though.

Ha, I was right. I was thinking you must be a jazz player by the way you're designing the guitar. I also might have just read some of your other posts and found out you play jazz . It looks like a great axe to switch between jazz and metal sounds, which is something I'm currently cursed to do on a Jackson dinky.

That looks awesome, Jim! And it sounds like it will indeed be a very versatile instrument. The stereo and magnetic/piezo options are equally tempting!

What wood combinations are you thinking of using? I wonder what a walnut back with a spruce top would sound like.
