Re: tuning????

i dont quite understand you, but i will try to answer it anyway

the 7 string equivalent of drop D is drop A

This is because standard 7 string tuning is:

B
E
A
D
G
B
e

so, to get a drop D one finger powerchord type setup on a sevenstring, drop the low B down a whole step to A. so its like this:

A
E
A
D
G
B
e

if you tune it like that ^^^, you can play stuff like this:

0-1-2-3
0-1-2-3

instead of

2-3-4-5
0-1-2-3

i hope that helps

Re: tuning????

So you tune (low to high) G-D-A-D-G-B-e, so you have a 1-finger power chord on the 7th & 6th and the 6th & 5th strings? That's pretty neat to be able to slide around power chords like that. Schecter used to make a 5-string guitar, the "celloblaster," with kind of a baritone-y tonal range where all the strings were tuned perfect 5ths apart instead of 4ths so you could do the same kind of thing on all the strings.
