Unknown Ibanez 7 string.

Huge question

Friend wants to sell me another 7 string (Have a UV now)

He doesn't know what model it is. I think its a 7421 but i also saw a 7321.

Color is Magenta Crush. SN is F9939285

He is selling it for like..$200 originally $550. So if ANYONE has an input, please respond.

(I don't think it is a HIGH quality guitar like my UV and custom strat..but how does it rank with you guys?)

I don't think the 7421 or the 7321 was availible in magenta crush and the 7321 was made no earlier than 2001(since the serial # shows it to be a '99).
Dose it have the fixed bridge? I think the only one in magenta crush would be a 7420 which has the LoTrs7 bridge.
Either way, if it's in decent shape, for $200 you can't really go wrong.

The '99 serial number makes it probably an RG7421 in Cherry Fudge if it has a fixed bridge. If it's got a locking trem, then it's either an RG7420 in Magenta Crush, or a 7620 in Vampire Kiss.

$200 is a steal.

Mid 99 says that the 7421 started.

i went ahead and got it....

Now here is a question. I think it originally had 9s on it, and i put 10s on it. What do i need to do ? Will it mess it up ? I usually have the guitars setup but I wanna do this on my own

With a different guage string setup on a fixed bridge model, the only thing you really have to worry about is probably intonation ;-)

And maybe a little bit of truss rod tweaking.

Can you do me a favor? I'm in the same boat tha tyou were a little bit ago, buying an unknkown 7 string that MIGHT be a 7421, but is most likely a 7621.. Can you tell me what markings/identification/model number might be either stamped on, or a sticker on the back of those pickups???

There should be a stamping in the neck pocket for identification.

Pup choices? EMG's!

Well, that's cool and all, but I don't think the guy I might buy this from is going to want me to remove the neck. What about the pups, is there a sticker or marking on the dimarzios that will let me know? The 7421 (according to research I've done on this site) used a cheaper hotter output pickup to cut costs. So I'd assume if I just pull a pickup out of
the cavity and look at the back, I'd be able to determine what this thing is from that?

Sure, if you can pull the pup(s), there should be an ID number. Also, I'm not sure but the 76's were made in Japn....the 74's were made in ?

According to this site, in the comparison table thing, the 7421 and 7621 were both made in Japan. If I knew for sure that the 7421 was made in Korea, then I'm home free...

When you say ID number, WHAT ID number am I looking for? The pickups are called Dimarzio NEW 7?? Do you know the DP number?

Sorry for being anal, but if this thing IS a 7421, I don't want it.

Ill tell you this. I got the 7421 and so far, it plays just as well as my universe. A bit lighter perhaps. Setup the exact same way. Same action and all basically.

I have played the 7620 and 7621, and to be 100% honest, there isnt much of a difference, espacially if youre going to switch out the pickups.
