uv777bk or 1077xl?

here's the choice i have to make.
both have pros and cons to me, the uv has such a friggin thick neck, but it sounds really great, and the looks!!

the 1077, well i'll have it harder to play my beloved 4 notes-per-string scales at first but anyway, it looks sweet, and i had tons of positive comments/reviews about it. i'm not going to detune anything, but i was told it sounded tighter in an "organic" way in the lows.

help!

I've been playing 7 string full time for about 5 years. About a month ago I picked up a 7421XL, the hardtail (and less expensive) extended scale Ibanez. I have since fallen in love with the longer scale. It tighter and better articulated than any 7 string I've ever played and I have no doubt that it's a direct result of the 27 inch scale. So given your options, I would go with the 1077XL.

I have yet to play a Universe, but I too own a 7421XL and 27 inch scale is awesome. Sounds better and gives the strings the right tension. Sure it takes a little getting used too, but it is awesome.
If ur thinking of getting the 1077XL, maybe you should hang on a little bit till the new 2077XL is out next year...

Here are links to a couple of threads that I posted on the Multmedia forum of some rough demos that did with the 7421XL. These are probably not the sort of thing that you're planning on playing, but they'll give you an idea of the range and articulation that you get from the longer scale. THe low string is tuned to an A. Everything else is standard tuning.

My band recorded some stuff in November. All guitars in left channel, plus most clean parts, are done with an unmodified 1077XL. Right channel is a 7420 with a single EMG707.

It's a damn nice guitar. No time at all to adopt the longer neck either - just picked it up and rocked on.
