Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

All right has anyone put there hands on one of these yet? ******** is blowing these out for $199.99 w/ free shipping no case of course. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fret board, hard tail. I figure the pickups are stock and well,, you know they will sound like stock p/u's. Apparently this guitar has been discontinued,,, so now they are blowing em out. A friend of mine is thinking about snagging one of these. So I figured I would do a little looking around and see if anyone here has any experience with this guitar.

The reviews look great. People are hailing this as the 7-string with the most anomalous performance/price ratio!

If I had the money I might get one, but then again I think I'll wait and just get a 7620...

Well, my friend ordered one so I will get to do the set up on it and I will have an opinion to share next week sometime. It just seemed to good to be true. The specs are awesome for the price,,,so I figured something must be screwy..... time will tell...

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

I have a WG587. Mine's different to the models that are for sale now. Mine has a coil tap and a floyd rose.

It's a good guitar, the pickups don't sound too bad. Has a very convincing strat sound when using the coil tap.

The bridge is not the greatest tremolo, but it does it's job.

Plays well, but mine needs a proper set up as it hasn't had one yet.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

I saw them in a Music *** catalog I recieved with a guitar I bought from the states about a year ago, and was briefly interested, but dismised it quicly on the grounds that it looked like a cheap copy.

I'm suprised it's taken so long to see this thread, but hey, there you go.

My opinion now hasn't changed one bit

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

I bought one at ******** for like $179. Its a damn nice guitar for the money. The finish is a little cobbled in some areas (clear not totally buffed in a small spot on one of the horns, tiny imperfections at the headstock) but if you weren't looking for them you wouldnt see them.

Neck pickup is a bit muddy, bridge pickup sounds great. The neck is a little rounder than the neck on my RG7620, but its very comfortable. It comes with a natural finish, Im going to rub some carnuba into it at some point.

All in all, the rumors and reviews you hear about it being great guitar for the money are spot on...Its a solid, well built instrument that plays and sounds great.

I also own an RG1077XL (main guitar), RG7620 w/707's and a Dean EVO Special 7. Im proud to have the Washburn as part of my collection.

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

I have a WG587. I bought it there too for 199 about 8 months ago. The pickups were garbage, so I changed them. It eventually became my project guitar. I have now changed the pickups to an EVO in the bridge and an Air Norton in the Neck. I stripped the paint on the headstock and the body and tung oiled it(the alder looks very good actually). It came with 18:1 ratio Grover Tuners, so need to change there. I may eventually get a tone pros bridge, but for now its fine. I LOVE this guitar now. It sounds the BOMB, and with the paint gone, it is nice and light(as weird as that sounds). I set it up perfectly with nice low action and it just flies. The neck is not too big, but it's no wizard. the fretboard has a more cushion feel and feels more fit for my hands than a wizard though. The fret access is good too. all in all, a fantastic deal. Pretty much, it was a 300 dollar guitar after putting pickups in it, but even then it is the real deal. For 199, you can't go wrong.

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

Right on! Like I had said earlier my friend at work ordered one for herself. We were looking at and discussing 7 strings, and Ibanez and the more we talked the more she couldn't resist the deal. I told her that I would post a "feeler" on the jemsite to see what the reviews were. LOL,,,before I even got the first feedback she talked herself into it. So I'm pretty stoked myself for her. Of course I volunteered to do a set up on it and stuff,,,so that means I will have it over night to play through my rig and A/B it with my 1527's. Swwweeeeettttt.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your input.

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

It does look awesome, once I figure out how to post pics I will. Only problem I ran into was the fact that they used wood puddy on a part of the guitar(something noone ever freakin' sees until they rip the paint off )

But it is lighter now and I just enjoy playing it now. That might also be attributed by the fact that I set it up properly.

Really? where was the puddy used? Was it to just fill a blem?

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

Yep, it was on the side of the guitar near the strap button. Just a little blem. (its funny how 'wood' puddy looks nothing like wood. It actually would look better with a cut in it for how small it is.)

Re: Washburn WG587??? $199.99????

Right on,,,might of been a jig slip when drilling the hole for the strap button. LOL,,,you would be amazed at how much Pig puddy, 5 minute epoxy and edge fill is used on aircraft avionics panels. :O) So I guess a little wood fill on a guitar is really no big deal.....

Guys. You're talking about wood *putty.* This is putty:

This is Puddy:

Please note the difference. Thank you.
