What do you guys think of the AX-7's??? - Any comments would

The OTHER guitar player in my band, still has not seen the light yet and bought a Jem or Universe of his own. But he did go out and buy a 7 string and it IS an Ibanez. In fact he bought 2 of them. They are both Ibanez AX-7's and one is made in Japan and one is made in Korea. The differences seem to be the bridge and the binding around the neck. They look like an Artist, with the double cutaway. *He knows I am on Jemsite everyday and I hold your opinions very high always saying "well on Jemsite they said this". So I was wondering if anyone has used one of these and what they can tell me about them.
Any comments or suggested mods would be greatly apprieciated!!!!

Don't have to sugar coat the comments either!!! *Let it FLY!!!! *Not gonna hurt anyones feelings.
Thanks!!!

i tried the korean one. i really don't like the body, but that's me. objectively, the tuners were low quality, as were the electronics. i suppose the japanese one has better hardware. if i wanted a 7 for that price, i would get an rg7321.

I'd like the AX series a LOT better if they had set mahogany necks instead of bolt-on maple, and carved tops instead of that beveled thing happening.

Oh, wait... but then it'd be a Yamaha Frank Gambale model.

Woah... the FGM is far more expensive than any AX you can find... but it's far more advanced, and well designed too... Actually, the FGMs are Bolt-INs... Dunno how that works, but it's not a set-neck...

I like the AX though, except I just wish it had a Wizard neck, and 24 frets...

I'm gonna guess it's a little bit of wood going into the body past the set-neck type heel-y thing and then that part inside the body is bolted. *Kinda a set-bolt-through design. *

Nitpicking aside, i think it'd be nice to have some more contemporary models in set-neck or neck-thru construction. I really don't like the pointiness of the RG body style, so will likely never own one.

A non-bolt-on S Classic would be awesome. I did realize that a gussied-up set-neck AX would really be very much like an Artist. I find the current Artist series offerikngs a bit too "classic" for my tastes. If Ibanez did quilted/flamed tops on these with scraped binding instead of plastic, and some more funky modern transparent stains and colours, these would probably be very strong "PRS killers".

I think the AX series is a nice alternative to the super-strat body style and has some great potential.
