I prefer 7 strings. I like the feel and sound of the wider neck.

Re: what do you prefer, 6 string, 7 string or 12 strin

I go back and forth on this issue. I had an RG7620, but got rid of it. And then just recently, I picked up a used ESP LTD H-307 neckthru 7-string. For lead playing and shredding, 7-strings give you increased possibilities, but I find that the wider neck takes some getting used to. I can still do rapid picking well on a 7-string (or at least no worse than I do on any other guitar...), but the 'voicing' stuff--the string bends, slurs, etc.--I find more difficult to execute cleanly, since I don't feel as 'in control' of the 7-string neck as I do on a 6.

The rhythm guitar stuff on a 7-string is just fantastic! You have so many amazing possibilities for new chord voicing and very deep-down stuff. True, you can't really do bar chords starting on the low-B string, which is a disadvantage over tuning down a 6-string to low B, but the increased overall range makes the 7-string a better option, in my opinion.

I use both. 6-string in drop-C, 7-string in standard down a whole step. I love the 7-string for being able to mix leads and chords on the high strings with heavy down-tuned riffing, and I love the 6-string for a more traditional feel, drop/alternate-tunings, and the sound of it is just beautiful (Squier Strat w/ DiMarzio Super Distortion, but the stock neck and middle pickups sound amazing too, and it feels perfect to me).

For me its only 6 & 7's. 6 strings tuned, standard, drop D, eb and Drop C, and 7 string tuned standard and dropped one whole step,

Just 6 strings for me. I've played a couple 7's, but I just couldn't get into the feel of them.

Oh, and I'd love to have a 12-string acoustic and a 12-string electric.

And a 14-string or two

What ever happened to Korn's 14 string guitar? i heard about Head discussing it with Ibanez a few years back, but that was the last of it...

Munky has one, used it on "Alone I Break" live. I think Head has one too, though I haven't seen it. There were rumours of a 7/14 doubleneck being made for Head but I haven't seen or heard anything about it either.

He actually didn't use it in the video for the song oddly, and I've only ever seen one really tiny picture of it, a really crappy quality scan from a magazine.

I've been playing 7-string for 8 years and will never go back to 6.
E tuning sounds too high for me. I love the low B and sometimes low A.

You know, Chris, for the longest time I thought CQ7 was the model number of one of your Schecters. It literally only hit me a few days ago that it wasn't, lol.

Given I moderate over at Chris's site and at extendedrangeguitar.com, I'm a pretty solid fixture in the seven string camp, too.

Lol, so did I. Lemme guess, are they his initials? (Calling him Chris was a hint.)
