What should I do with my 7 string?
Ok, I bought this Dean Avalanche 7 because I always wanted a 7, but couldn't afford a UV. Problem is, it pretty much sucks. It has the strings through the body, 2 stock humbuckers. I had a couple different thoughts. I've wanted to do
custom guitar
work for a long time, so I was thinking about using this guitar as a test subject for trying out new things like DIY swirling or spray painting. Or maybe scalloping the neck. Maybe putting in Blaze Customs or something else. Or I could just try to sell it and put my money somewhere else.
Any wisdom would be useful to me at this point, I don't know much about guitar projects. Thanks!

Re: What should I do with my 7 string?
If the guitar has been setup properly and it still sucks, it either isnt the guitar for you or it just plain old sucks. I wouldnt dump my money into something I dont like the feel of in the first place. You said you couldnt afford a UV, so my suggestion would to check out an Ibanez 7620. Its pretty close to a UV and you can pick one up for under 500 usually. I have been messin around with doin swirls since summer and if you want more info on how ive been doin it and how much it cost to do yourself just send me a pm. I also just did my own
pyramid inlay
and it really wasnt that hard minus the time it takes.

+1 on a used 7620 while they are out there for a decent price......I'd sell the Dean and buy an Ibanez, that's just me, all my 7s are Ibanez.

+2 on the 7620 suggestion. You'll be better off.

Re: What should I do with my 7 string?
sell it. the only worthwhile 7's are ESP (namely steph carpenter's signatures) and ibanez's. Anything else, is a waste of money. As the two people above said earlier, the rg7620 is a great guitar.
I have a LA
Custom Shop
Dino 7, a Universe, and RG7CT all from ibanez. Before i blew all my money on credit to buy these guitars i had an rg7621 and rg7620. I can tell you right now, the rg7620 is a VERY good guitar. What it comes down to, it is good enough that if your a good guitar player you'll sound good on it. If you suck, you'll suck on it. It's good enough for the pros.
After i bought my UV, i saw
morbid angel
live with soulfly. They played RG7620's, busting out leads left and right. Those guys blew me away, and i can definately say i hold my own.
What i'm trying to say, although i love my 7's i have now, i can tell you that the RG7620 is no handicap guitar. I still wish i had mine. It's good enough for any pro. **** schecter, dean, or whoever else makes 7's. They make good guitars but not 7's. In my opinion its all about Ibanez RG7's or better, or ESP LTD (steph series.)
Honestly, the UV is an RG7 with a thicker neck but honestly no better. Play's just as good. The UV is more about the looks. Get the RG7.

Honestly, I just played a buddy's black cherry C-7 Hellraiser, and was seriously impressed by the thing. If this tells you anything, I just sold a CST, and am leaning towards buying one of these as a replacement. Sounded great, felt great, looked great... I don't think it'll take over my PWH's spot as my main player, but as a rhythm axe the thing was seriously vibe-y (and actually killed for leads, too, but for me it's a tonal thing, i prefer basswood for soloing)
Apparently, Schecter's build quality has improved leaps and bounds over the last couple years, but one way or another that was a seriously good guitar.

Re: What should I do with my 7 string?
Apart from my RG7620, I too like Schecter's C-7.
