Re: what strings do you have on your 7?
I still don't have a 7. I'll be picking one up soon though, and I'll be using these custom gauges (because they are evenly graduated in tension):
9-12-16-24-32-44 (I use this set on 6's) and then either a 58 or 60. The 58 tuned to B has a tension of 15.92lbs which is just very slightly less than a 44 tuned to E (16.1). This might be a little too light but probably OK. The 60 would be better at 17.09lbs of tension, just slightly more than the 44 / E, which is ideal.

It really is. A 52 would give you 12.35 lbs of tension. That's LESS than the high E! LOL. The high E (if it's a 9) would be 13.13lbs. To have a thick E string with less tension than this really is bizarre. Toneless slop.

Looks like they changed the gauges for the EXL110's.
I never got the memo.

I've switched over to DR high beam 9-42 +56 for my Carvin 7
feels better and sounds better, but I'm still using d'Addarios on my 6'ers.

I'm not happy with this 59. Next set I use will be 9-12-16-24-32-44-60.

Re: what strings do you have on your 7?
i used daddario 9-42 with a 60 for the B but thats only because i havn't change pickups and i am trying to brighten up the sound. i'll probably drop it down once i get new pickups.

What do you think of the 60, Mr. Dragon Slayer J? Is the tension OK?

Re: what strings do you have on your 7?
i use a 52-10 set, with a low .70 for the low G... i would have gone with a .42 set or so instead for the rest of the strings though... i tune to drop G btw, which explains the .70 :P
i´m getting a custom baritone conversion neck built for my 7 though, so the .70 will work much better

The tension of the low B is supposed to be greater than the E, it's a thicker string. If this feels good to you, that's cool, but even a .059" is only just tight enough for me. I think a .060" might be better.

Re: what strings do you have on your 7?
The standard set was 9 - 42 + 54, which gives less tension on the B.
I'm pretty happy with the even tension, a 59 is probably a bit too much of a jump for me, but I'll give it a shot.

Re: what strings do you have on your 7?
Most of mine are now fitted with
ernie ball
10's with a 60 on the low B minimum.
Used to use 9's but they now feel like rubber bands.
Still a .60 for Low B isn't enough and i shall be going up soon.
