Re: what strings do you have on your 7?

The standard set was 9 - 42 + 54, which gives less tension on the B.

I'm pretty happy with the even tension, a 59 is probably a bit too much of a jump for me, but I'll give it a shot.

Most of mine are now fitted with ernie ball 10's with a 60 on the low B minimum.

Used to use 9's but they now feel like rubber bands.

Still a .60 for Low B isn't enough and i shall be going up soon.

Re: what strings do you have on your 7?

I use D'Addario EXL110-7 0.10-0.59... for my 6 stringers cuz' I dont have a 7str. guitar!
So I just skip the 0.10 string and go 0.13-0.59 and go down to B or Drop A on my guitars.
Some day I might get a 7 again C:

Re: what strings do you have on your 7?

Hey guys,

rather than starting a new thread just for this, I figure I might as well ask a quick question here:

Right now I play an Ibanez RG1527, and I like the feel of gauge 10 strings with a 59 for the bottom end.

Now, the Ibanez is obviously a 25.5" scale guitar with a floating trem, both of which affect tension. I will soon be getting a Schecter C-7 with a 26.5" scale and a fixed bridge, both of which should yield tighter tension.

Anyway, I'm wondering if getting the guitar set up with 9s will make it feel like my Ibanez strung up with 10s, or if the difference in tension is tiny and I should just get the Schecter set-up with 10s anyway. I really like the feel of 10s on my Ibanez, I just need to know what to tell the tech who'll be setting up my Schecter.

10's feel great on a 26.5 scale. how are you going to tune it?
I just picked up a Loomis sig and I tuned it to E-flat with 10-56 (but I am going to go to a 60 on the B and it feels great.

Standard tuning (I plan on going into drop-A from time to time).

So how big of a jump in tension is there between 10s on a 25.5" scale and 10s on a 26.5" scale?

Dean Markley blue steel lites. Defintately last longer than any other string I have tried in the past 20 years.

Well I tune the Loomis down 1/2 step so the difference in Tension is very minimal. 10's feel "right" on the schecters (to me anyway), I've had 3 and I always use 10-56 on them.

I'm using 12-54 for the top 6 and a 64 for the lowest string in standard tuning on all my 7's at the moment. Very chunky

Standard Tuning - 12- 70. Thinking of upping it to 72.

I use D'Addario 9 - 46s on my 6 strings (10s on my LP), so I just use those with a 59 B string.
