Which one?

Hey y'all! I'm new to this site and I am glad to see that there are other 7-string players out there that actually know something! I am a fairly new guitarist as well and some of my biggest influences have been KoRn, SOAD, Pantera, and Blue Collar War (www.bluecollarwar.com). I would love to get a good seven string guitar under $700. Do you know what the best would be. I am used to playing with an SG-style guitar.Thnx

Re: Which one?

Well , if you like an SG style , try this:
http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=AX7221.
It's definately under your price cap . Not my first choice , but may fit you well . And , BTW , welcome to Jemsite !

this model is good it has a good clean sound on the 7th string ( most cheaper 7 stringer have a very muddy 7th string)

Re: Which one?

I wouldn't suggest getting one of those. I have an AX7521, which is the same body shape, but made in Japan. The reason I wouldn't get another, or suggest you get one is the short scale length. Don't get a 7 string with a scale length under 25 inches.

Re: Which one?

Thnx you guys. I have played the 7221 and didn't care for the hardware. but other than that, I thought that it was a decent guitar. Do you guys know anything about the Schecters because they make two or three sevenstrings: the C-7 Blackjack and now the 007 special (i think that's what it is). If you have played it, plz respond. I would like something with a strung-over bridge (the SG bridge) but I do like the tremolos. I do use a six string with the low six outfitted on it. if you want a couple pix and sound bytes check out: www.purevolume.com/pariahva I am very fond of the RG series b/c (*duh) KoRn uses them. I have played their $350 one. but would like their more expensive one.

Re: Which one?

If you like the RG , then try to find an RG1527 (new) or an RG7620 (used). Sorry , don't know much about the Schecters , except they are nice looking . I'm an Ibanez man !

Re: Which one?

pop on over to sevenstring.org, lot's of Schecter fans there. Actually, half of that board posts here too, so you'll recognize names and folks. A lot of players seem to really like the Schecter 7's though, especially the longer scale length ones.

Re: Which one?

a new RG1527 is great so is a used RG7620 can be had for pretty cheap on the bay (i have this one, and most people will agree that they're a screaming deal.) korn actually used these models from time to time.

those models have the tremolo bridges as well as the RG7420 (lesser quality pickups, and the trem is very inferior to the one on the 7620)

the new schecters are turning out to be great products from what i hear lots of people saying.
the cheaper "damien" models are really quite good for lower-mid end guitar

then there are the "hellraiser" series which are a little more upscale... these have EMGs in them

and last but deffinetly not least are the "blackjacks" which are similar to the hellraisers but have seymour duncan pickups... real ones, not "duncan designed" which are the cheaper kind.

i highly reccomend going with a scale length of over 25 as it will give you alot more clarity that really shows up on the low B string... most if not all of these new schecter 7 strings have an extended scale length.

How about an SG-style 7-string? Look no further than the ESP LTD Viper-407! Most places I've seen are gonna sell them for $629. Check out www.drumcityguitarland.com

Check here for specs on the Viper-407...
