Re: Zachary 8-string

Well Dee, it's nice to hear from someone with firsthand knowledge who we don't think actually IS Zachary Do you have one of his guitars? If so, a little review would be great from someone with some credibility on here.

Re: Zachary 8-string

No, unfortunately I don't own one, Gilk. I would love to own a ZT2, I like that shape a lot. I have bought strings from him and talked with him via email. He was nothing like I imagined, but a very pleasant chap.

Re: Zachary 8-string

I thought Bobby Simcox got that 8-string? It is a beast for sure.

And I am not Zachary you guys. Geez! Do you think he would take the time to post here like 300 times?

Ah, the famous Z red couch!

Re: Zachary 8-string

I kind of like that body style and headstock. And I was just kidding Dino, I know you're not Zachary, I just know Dee's taste is a little more like mine, so I would've liked to hear his review, that's all.

Yeah, Dino is not Alex, for anyone who thinks he is. Alex has his own account here.

Re: Zachary 8-string

it seems whatever he is playing can be done on a 7 string. throw a .70 gauge on one and rock away like manilli vanilli.

Re: Zachary 8-string

The video's posted from the OP weren't convincing of this guitar.

It sounds like a bass. maybe since it's pretty much part bass and part guitar it should be called a "buitar"

Re: Zachary 8-string

I doubt that there will ever be a video showing the full potential of this guitar

Re: Zachary 8-string

But yeah, short scales and thick strings result in a much much more bass-emphasised acoustic tone which then translates over the rest of the chain into a basslike sound.

Re: Zachary 8-string

Hey Hey,Folks, i'm the owner that bruiser!!!:O

Actually, the idea behind her is to be the Ultimate Funk Blaster!!!

The lowest 2 strings are actual bass strings!!!

The idea, for me anyway, isn't to actually sound like a bass, like Charlie Hunter does, but to compliment the bass but still be guitaristic in tambre!!!
That way the 2 instruments aren't competing w/ each other!!!

The string spacing on her is equivalent to a Gibson, but that isn't an issue for me since i got lil hands!!!O

Oh, and no, the bass strings have no problem staying in the nut grooves even when i'm really beating away on her!!! :O

Alex takes alot of pride in his work, and would never even let a guitar leave his shop unless it was fully functional and to his standards, which we all know are pretty high!!!

cheers!!!

Re: Zachary 8-string

Wouldnt it make more sense (or at least make for a sensible idea) to tune it as a 7 string with an extra high A?

As far as I've read on the subject, such tuning isn't really working, beacuse you cannot tune to A with the existing string guages. The strings snap.

Re: Zachary 8-string

I love the look of it, the shape inlays etc are gorgeous. I'd be concerned about the 26" scale length and REALLY concerned about what appears to be a 1 piece maple neck with no truss rod. With the tension on that sucker that is probably going to bow badly in a few years. I also think it's completely unaceptable on a $2500 guitar to have hardware that doesn't really work with the strings... like the string retainers, nut, tuners, and string-through ferrules on tha back.
