Re: Zachary 8-string

There is a truss rod. All the hardware looks like it works fine to me.

Tech, why would you think there's no truss rod?

+1

No disrespect to anybody but, maybe if they had someone who knew what the hell they were doing with an 8 string...it would have been different. That guy sounds like he should be playing a dobro at some wedding.

"You see, not everyone is worthy of a Zachary guitar -- customers have to prove themselves first."...what the hell did this guy prove...

"I don't cater to rich lawyers or doctors who can't play."...Well maybe he was half right cause this guy probably isn't a lawyer or doctor...

Again no disrespect to anyone but in my opinion that guy wasn't a very good choice to showoff an instrument (especially an 8-string).

Edit: Apparently this is Alex (the builder)? If so i can't see how he can build for guitar players when he, himself, is barely one.

Hey, Leo Fender couldn't play the guitar! Never stopped him, did it?

True...I was just thinking about that.

But isn't this guy against big time companies such as Fender, PRS, and Gibson...

He has more in common with them than he thinks...

Re: Zachary 8-string

Well, the back plate is nice.

Do string trees give this Alex guy a boner or something? Maybe thats one of his selling points. "Why buy an overpriced Fender with only 1 or 2 string trees, or the EJ Strat with none, when you can buy my 8-string abortion and get FOUR string trees".

Maybe he hasn't heard of the negative effects of string trees.

Hi,Aris_T!!! Thx fer the "Welcome"!!! >;D
Actually, it's VERY comfortable to play!!! The neck isn't bulky at all, but the width does require some acclimation time!!!

Actually, Aris_T is correct!!! The tension on a 26" scale neck w/ a high A would be extremely prohibitive, and i'd be snapping high As every time i tried to bend them!!!
i had originally wanted the 8-string to have a Low B, AND a High A, but we decided that the Funk Monster would be more practical!!!
The only way that a Low B,High A 8-string can function almost normally would be to utilize fanned frets that would allow a shorter scale on the high strings and a longer one on the lower strings, but we didn't even wanna mess w/ that!!! Conklin does have 8-strings that have that feature and it seems to work well for Rusty Cooley!!! Charlie Hunter plays Novax 8-strings that feature the fanned frets also, but actually use bass strings on the lower 3 w/ actual bass pick-ups so he can dispense w/ a bassist!!! Like i said, this guitar wasn't meant to replace the bassist, but to compliment him/her!!!

Hey!!! You callin' my 8-string an "abortion"???>
Abomination, maybe, but i DID name her "Clobberin' Time" in homage to Ben Grimm, The Thing, fr the Fantastic Four!!!>

Frankly, i can live w/ the string trees, but i'd rather have a single retainer bar instead!!!

i was once doing a country solo at a gig, and i was utilizing the "behind the nut" bends that i think are soooo cool!!! Anyway, while using that technique, the string became unhooked and i couldn't get it rehooked, so needless to say, my country solo turned into a jazz solo pretty quickly!!!> true story!!!

I think I read somewhere that Vai also had problems snapping high A strings when the 7-string Ibanez was being developed. That's why they chose to put a low B on there instead.

Re: Zachary 8-string

I'd expect some better quality wood for $2500.

So did he invent the AANJ too, he sure acts like he did.
