The JEM paint job and trem are worth more than all the materials that went into that thing.

You're comparing a mass produced JEM to a unique hand-made 8-string guitar built by one man? Since when has the sum of the parts made any difference as to what you pay? How about the JEM 20th... is that worth the money? No, it's a total ripoff, and 35% of the JEM price goes to
Steve Vai
.

My point is he's ripping people off just as much as the others are. With all the nostalgic blabbering he does about mainstream guitars he won't even admit that they are better value than his, take out the hand made cost, so now it's worth about $1500, it probably kicks most guitars arses in 'that' price range but is it worth paying the extra grand for what is the equivalent of a $1500 guitar?
And anyway, compared to other custom builders he's ripping people off blind with those prices.

Now that he isnt, there arent alot of handmade guitars around for $2500.
You mite get a decent handmade guitar with very basic features for that and whenever these one off "Hand Crafted" guitars come about you can just about double that.
Compared to custom builders, sure, but they just CNC a body and neck, fit your options and do the final finishing, which takes alot less time than hand making one.
Dont get me wrong, i still think the guy sounds like an arrogant ass and to be fair, flaming other companies is the wrong way to do business in my book, but he still has to make a living, hence the price.

Re: Zachary 8-string
Honestly, i'm not here to debate Alex's choice of promotional techniques,or his character(believe me, he IS a character
)!!! i'm not here to neccessarily plug Zachary Guitars!!! i'm just here to hopefully help folks in their Guitar Journey!!! Alex dosen't make guitars for the money!!! He sells Horns to make his bread and butter!!! He makes guitars because he loves it!!! The guitars he does make are worth every penny and then some, in my estimation!!! If You've never played a Zachary, then You have NO IDEA what Yer missing!!! These axes have cured me of Guitar Lust!!! Now, the only reason i go to Guitar Center is to buy a box of their cheapest strings!!!>

Dude, sorry but I disagree. I'd like to know where I can get a totally hand-made guitar of that quality for under $2k. Sure, the 8-string is a little pricier, but that's to be expected because of the work that went into building it. To me, the Zach guitars seem very well priced indeed. I was very surprised at the prices when I first read about them last year and I have wanted one ever since. I don't really care what anyone says about Alex or his guitars -- they are damn nice, especially the Z2-T, and Alex is not the ripoff merchant some people seem to think he is. Dealing directly with him via email proved to me that he is a very honest, decent bloke. It's just so trendy to bash Alex and
Zachary guitars
and I'm not about to jump on that bandwagon.
Now a JEM, that, to me, is an over-priced guitar. That's why I have been playing RG's for so long. You'll find many people here who also agree they are over-priced. Remember the thread we had a while back? I can't believe people are talking s**t about Alex's prices yet are suckered in by the JEM thing.

Re: Zachary 8-string
I think alot of the bashing is from the things he says on his web site.
HE sounds like a real tool. You have read that crap, haven't you, Dee???
There is no bandwagon to jump on.....just read what he has written.

Is this why he sold a 15 dollar ikea table made into a guitar for 2 grand?

So if you like his attitude, does that mean to better promote your
guitar playing
and other hobbies you trash people who have a common interest?

As I said, what difference does the total cost of the parts make? None whatsoever. You're paying for a hand made guitar, no matter what it's made from.

Why don't you go ask Alex? Why are you asking me? You're the one who has a problem, go f**king ask instead of bitching about it here.

Re: Zachary 8-string
Sorry if i came a little strong there man. You made some good points and i just want to say that i respect your opinion. As you can tell i like to be E-TUFF like everyone else on a forum. No hard feelings i hope though. I was just expressing my opinion and it happens to differ from yours. I think we can definitely say that this topic is adjourned.
Cheers mate,
Jon Kon

Re: Zachary 8-string
OK. I'm just sick and tired of hearing the same old stuff, people bashing Alex constantly, and these are people who have never even dealt with him. He has a problem with other guitar makers, and so what? Without actually playing his guitars no one can say s**t. Those people who own Zachary guitars love them. Look at the reviews on Harmony Central. Sure, it's not exactly the guitar bible, but there's gotta be something in those reviews to go on, they are all 10/10. I agree with Alex on most things he says. Some things I don't agree with but I really don't care, he has every right to post his opinion, and I have more respect for a man who stands up for what he believes in rather than a mega-corp who sells flamed wallpaper or who pushes signature guitars at ridiculous prices because fanboys will suck it all up.

I knew this was coming when I read it... There were some harsh words exchanged about this before!
He has a good reason not to be using them. I am sure he night tell you that he would rather use them if he could.
