'?' about fingerboard replacement

heres what i want to do... buy an ibanez neck for a jem replacement body. replace the fingerboard entirelly with perfered inlays and ebony. i know i can buy a fingerboard with the correct scale lenght, radius'd, slotted and inlayed. my '?'s are
1. is this a relistic mod.. i know it might not be the most cost effective. but i dont have any intentions on waiting 2+ years for a high quality neck.

2. (looking for a referall based on experence) who would take this type of mod and be able to get it done in a timely fashion?

3. is there anything i could have a luthier do in preping the new board to make the install easier for the luthier to do the fingerboard swap?

thank you for your time

Re: '?' about fingerboard replacement

Nothing wrong with your plan AFAIK. I had a 550 neck with a hack scallop job and planed the fingerboard off and glued on a new stewmac slotted fingerboard. Then had my regular luthier plane it and fret it and it came out fine. I chose to skip the inlays and just installed side dots. Just make sure you check the new fretboard for perfect flatness before installing frets as it may need a little sanding or planing first.

Re: '?' about fingerboard replacement

thanks for the link, chris woods did that upgrade. i have an order with him thats taken 18 months so far. i'll pass on that luthier for the upgrade. but he does do awsome work. apparently he has bigger and better things going on. just hoping he honors the work order and deposit i sent him.

Re: '?' about fingerboard replacement

there are other builders (including myself) listed at the top of the page that would make you a neck like that in a lot less than 2 years.
