2 questions - Trem posts, and pick-up wire

I am in the process of building an Ibanez. I am not sure what year or type the body is (a new-ish RG of some sort), but I have an original Edge tremolo that I would like to install.

I noticed that the flimsy trem that came out of it has two half-moon knife edges, while the older Edge has one straight edge on the top, and one half-moon on the bottom.

Question #1 -
Are the trem posts on the newer bodies offset to accommodate this knife-edge configuration??

Or, are they symmetric in that they are the same distance apart horizontally, say from a fixed point, like the neck joint??

Im not sure if I am asking this the correct way.

Ive already custom routed the trem cavity to accept the larger Edge tremolo. It sure would be nice if I could use it.

Question #2 -
I have been trying to find some wire at the local stores to use for rewiring pick-ups, but nobody has anything even close. Is there an acceptable substitute to using guitar wire???

Thanks-

Re: 2 questions - Trem posts, and

1) I believe that the "from-nut" distance two the trem posts is the same, regardless of one knife edge being half moon and the other straight shaped. Certainly the gotoh wilkinson trem that is popular on warmoth guitars has a half moon on one side, and a straight edge on the other. Apparently this is done so that only one of the edges 'locates' the bridge, while the other just supports it so as to reduce friction.

2) when you say re-wire, are you after pickup coil wire? Like the very thin stuff that is actually surrounding the pole pieces? If so, I believe it's 42 gage enamel coated magnet wire. My local electronics shop did not have anything that small either. They went down only to 32 gage. stewmac sells the stuff, but only in huge spindles.

Re: 2 questions - Trem posts, and

Thanks for the reply andrewgosline,
I always wondered about that 1/2 moon shape cutout. Now it makes perfect sense. It holds it in place. Thank you.
And the pickup wire - I guess I should have been a little clearer. I am not looking to rewire the pick up I guess, but I do want to ADD some wire to the length of the wires running to the knobs and such. The shielded wires I guess.
I thought about using some wire from a telephone cord since it was all I had at the time, but then I decided to wait.
What guage is that stuff in the shielded wires???
Can it be purchased at home depot?
Thanks again.
