3rd String-Pinch Harmonics Won't Sustain on Bends
I'm having an annoying problem with my 2005 VWH. When I get a pinch harmonic on the third string and bend the string, the pinch harmonic fades out. The same thing happens when I try to get a pinch harmonic at the top of a bend. On the 14th fret, I can't get a pinch harmonic at the top of a bend at all, it fades out right away. This problem mostly occurs on the 9th fret up. What do you guys think the problem is? My setup? Why does this only occur on the third string?

I had the same problem on my rg570. When i try to do the intro from "direct injection"(greg howe), the pinch armonic on the 4th fret doesn't come out or won't sustain!.

Re: 3rd String-Pinch Harmonics Won't Sustain on Bends
i *think* this may have something to do with the problem known as "fretting out"
It has happened to me and when i raised my string height a little on my (crappy) epi SG special it seemed to fix it a bit, but im no tech guru so i couldnt eliminate it
just a thought

Nope, it has nothing to do with that really, because all bends and notes ring out and sustain clearly but when you put a pinched harmonic on top of the bend is when this phenomena occurs...
(Just for the record my guitar is perfectly set up and the frets are leveled)

could be the way your hitting the harmonic, I've noticed if I hit them lightly they ring better. are you also compensating for bridge pullup?

Sorry Robb but that's not the issue either! I learnt to do P.H. 16 years ago and I can assure you I am pretty good at it!!!
(all kidding aside this does not happen with any other of my guitars...?!?)

Re: 3rd String-Pinch Harmonics Won't Sustain on Bends
The distance of of the pickups is making resonance with the mangnetic field on the frequency of the harmonic, canceling it...
Lower as much as you can the Pups and try again...most probably your harmonics will have a lot of sustain, ,then raise the pups and when the sustain fails, backup a little.....
