4 Input Marshall JTM45 - which is which?

So I just got this JTM45 Reissue. *You know how it is, the 4 input Marshall type. *It has inputs numbered "1" and "2" on the top and then "1" and "2" right below those. *It sounds like "2" is the bright input. *I can't tell which one is supposed to be the input with more gain though because it is too loud. *I'm sure somebody here knows. *I sure don't, because I have never owned a 4 input amp.

Also, there are 2 "loudness controls". *One says High Treble on the top and the other says "Normal. *A guy told me that for whichever channel was in use, it's corresponding treble EQ would be activated -- "High Treble" if you plug into that input or "Normal" if you plug into the normal input -- and then the other would act as a volume. *This works when I plug into the "1" inputs, but when I plug into the inputs marked "2", they BOTH act as a volume. *Hmmm...

Another thing. *The amp makes a lot of crackling noises after I reach a certain point with the volume knob and when I turn the standby switch on and off. *The crackling seems to be most prominent in the "2" inputs.
